I am going to make a set of cables that are RCA/XLR combination. Has anyone else done this before? Any advise? I found a little tutorial at:
http://www.diycable.com/main/product_info.php?products_id=609

I was wondering if there was anything else they left out.....

Those look like quality cables for the money,Canare makes excellent products. Ive used their LS 61 75 ohm as a digital cable.

I'm going to use Cardas Crosslink IC cable with cardas RCAs and Neutrik XLRs. I picked up some techflex and heatshrink as well, I would like these to at least give a somewhat professional appearance. I am kinda anxious to get the stuff and get started.

I found the key to getting them to look good is stripping the wires and insulation the correct amount.I like their idea of adding some hot glue to prevent shorting and add a bit of strain relief.

I thought that was a cool idea too. I am actually going to do that to my wingcord at work too, because that thing keeps breaking the terminations.

These are the two colors of techflex I bought

I had to buy 25ft of each, so if this works out I may determine a price and sell a few pairs.

Hi,
I have made a couple of rca ic with the cardas twinlink wire and their GRMO and GRCM rhodium over silver plate rcas. They sound very good. Solid bass crisp top, very quiet. I am using silver wire with eichmann copper rcas now and find the bass is lighter and the top is nice. I go back and forth. I may get more cardas wire to use with the eichmanns. I also use cardas wire in the tonearm of my TT. Hope that helps.

I was bored this evening and assembled one of these http://www.soundstage.com/synergize/synergize021998.htm

I did not have magnet wire lying around, so I cannibalized an inductor in an old broken computer power supply. I had some PE entry level RCA's lying around. Used plain packing tape.

The result... they bested my existing Monster Ultra THX cables. With how this forum feels about Monster, that's probably not saying much ;) but I am pleased with the result.

Thats cool. I am hoping that the cables I make will best the Signal Cable Analog IIs I have hooked up now. We will find out next week.

Well, they are done. The biggest challenge was figuring out how to work with techflex. I managed to screw it up about three times on the first cable, of course the second one worked out the first time. ;)

they sound great.....Better than my Signal Analog 2's did anyway.....A lot less hiss coming from the speakers. There was a little bit of a difference in music as well......A little more "open" I guess. I heard a few things in albums I hadn't heard before. The voices in movies were a little bit more clear as well, especially at low volume. I would have been on cloud 9 if they just worked, the result was just awesome

Sweet. I find much more enjoyment when I make things instead of buying them. I have done 4 different IC cables myself, and it is nice that you can try different wire to see what works with your system :)

Enjoy, nice job

Thanks man. I am looking for a cheaper supplier for the actual cable so I could maybe make a set or two for some of you guys for a reasonable price...

Those look very professional...nicely done.

On a side note, I just get the whole magnet wire thing. I tried it and find it to be anything special at all. Maybe a synergy thing?
