Apparently George Lucas doesn't think that his own speakers at Skywalker Sound have to be THX certified. Kinda makes you wonder, huh? Dan, you better explain this to me. If they master stuff on non-THX speakers, how could this THX thing possibly work?

Shoot, as long as the score doesn't contain rock music, they should be ok.....

Damn!!!! in all seriousness however, the more I learn the more I think this whole THX thing is a bunch of She-at. We have discussed in many posts how equalizers are taboo but yet Lucas is alowed to build in equalization based on an assumption that we can't control room acoustics. Check spelling..... whatever!
But the whole THX thing should really be redefined IMHO!

Just so you guys all know............B&W used to make THX CERTIFIED speakers. What you see in that pic is the older Matrix 802's.So whats wrong with that?
O and George doesn't put rock music into his movies......does he??

Those are current model 802's. The Matrix 800 models were very 'square', still utilized the 'tweeter on top', but did not look like the current models at all.

Didn't you read the link I posted above the picture? It's a press release from B&W dated March 2002.

I was wondering about THX certification for computer speakers... I thought to be THX certified, the speakers had to have a certain performance level.. how in the world could a small, cheap system make those specs?? I checked out the THX site but couldn't find specifics. Are the THX specs for computer speakers different than for HT??

my thoughts are this.....the most important consideration for THX certification is a LARGE bank account. If you got enough cash, I'll bet you could get anything THX certified.

The plot thickens. Then again, so does Lucas's already thick skull.
Coltrane's sax wasn't THX!:)
