I'm getting closer to finishing off the kids' stands for the 5jr's. I still have to put a walnut finish on the plates and some aluminum paint on the pillars. What do you folks think about filling these? I was thinking about filling the two back pillars and rigging the front pillar for running wire but I'm just so damn lazy. I'd really like to just finish them off. Will it make much difference if they're as is?

You should fill them and spike them, both of which can be done cheap....so even the non-believers can be happy. Looks great!

I haven't tried it yet with 5jr's but with a good amp these get enjoyably loud. In my room there is a big difference with bass response the closer they are to my wall, right round where the sub is in your photo. Filling the tubes and spiking them certainly won't hurt. I'm going to have to add this to my to-do list.

Like Mark said, fill them and spike them. If you don't want to buy lead just use something to add some weight. Scrape steel or gravel, jut something to add some weight. Spikes are cheap, but they will halp anchor the speaker and provide some added detail and bass thump!

I agree on the spikes. I've spiked every pair I've made. I just haven't made a pair that are fillable yet and was curious about the effect. Thanks.

Fill and spike. The hardest part is carrying the lead shot to the register to purchase and then carrying into the house/basement or garage. Do it now before they are finished and final assembly. I have 5b's so I'm curious how high are the stands for your jr's?

With spike's it'll be about 22.5". An averaged measurement based on my daughter's ear height both seated and on her bed, the two most likely listening positions for her.

.....filled & spiked. After mulling over different options for fill I finally settled on pea gravel. Not as messy as sand, but not as heavy as lead. Hopefully her receiver will be here soon so I finally install this little rig.
