SOLD!!!

The time has come to part with my wonderful sounding Sheng Ya CD-S10. I am the second owner. I purchased it from Halo last Summer. I rate it 8 out of 10 for age plus two owners. It’s in excellent condition, no scratches or marks on the face of the thick, machined aluminum face plate. There is one tiny nick on the top edge of the faceplate. I had to take off my glasses to see it up close. This is a tube CDP that several Polk Forum members own or have owned. Do a search on this Forum under Sheng Ya and you’ll find a lot of praise for this player. There is also a lot of good reviews of this player on just about all of the major audio forums. Do a search, I have yet to read a bad thing about this player.

I have recently upgraded with two new players a Quad 99 CDP-2 for redbook (thanks Norm!) and a Sony N999ES Modwright Signature Truth SACD (Thanks Rich!), so there is no longer room in the rack for this beauty.

The CD player has a Philips-servo-system transport CD7-II / VAM1202, the DAC is 24bit/96kHz Burr-Brown PCM1732 with HDCD decoder, and Brown-Burr high-speed OPA2134 and OPA2604 opamps, equipped with the third-order low-pass filter. Its output stage is designed in Class A circuitry, with high-grade GIC toroidal core transformer. Amplification is taken over by tube a 12AUX7, responsible for the warm, soft, but, also precise expression of sound. And power regulation is performed by a 6DJ8/6922. This player has a built in preamp so you can connect it directly to an amplifier. Of course it has a remote.

Hey Carl

This piece really has me thinking....

Since I am a cheap bastard from Upper St. Clair I was wondering if there was any difference in price for local pick up. :o

Hope all is well in the 'burgh.

Chris, of course there would be a reduced price for local pickup you cheap SOB from USC!:D

You'd like the SY with those 2.3's! This SY has my 2.3's singing like a mofo! Nice smooth highs, lush midrange and deep, tight bass.

You comin' home for a visit soon?

All's well in the Steel City!

Notice that I didn't put mine up for sale and I have another pretty decent source or two.

I believe that you'd be hard pressed to find another source, that can compete with the SY, without spending around twice as much $$$.

Hey! I thought I had the right to 1st refusal! :(

This is an AWESOME player and an absolute STEAL at this price.

Not a day goes by that I regret selling it - I'm not kidding.

Looks good, sounds good, priced right. Keep it in the family or I will buy it back!

Rad. Nice piece of chi-fi. I hope it sounds as great as it looks. I love the tube behind the port hole look.

Me too:D Worth the price of admission if you ask me. The newer model's porthole isn't as prominent...

Eff how it sounds:)

I received this from Carl yesterday and I have to say the pack job was killer!

I have only had the chance to listen to a couple of things but I can tell a difference between my ancient Denon and the SY. The SY has a more subtle sound that takes the edge off of some of the highs. It is a more reserved but detailed sound - not in your face like the Denon. Anyway, I'm no Shakespeare so I'll leave it at that.

Carl - thanks again for a great transaction. I'll PM Shack to let him know.

Cheers!

I'm glad you enjoy the SY Chris. You described my experience with it exactly. If you have any questions, give me a call. BTW, the HDCD encoding will play HDCD disks. The purple HDCD light only comes on if the volume is set to "26", which is the default setting and the highest it will go.

Happy listening! Give those Tele's a try. The 12AU7 is the output stage tube and is the one that makes the biggest impact on the sound quality. If you're going to roll other tubes, I would suggest looking for an Amperex (Holland). A little pricey, but one of the finest 12AU7's
