Drilling a hole in Cultured Marble?

As anyone done this? Looking to add a cable outlet, but wish to do it with a low voltage single gang outlet box. I have an existing 120vac outlet that will be ~4" or so from this hole, so I know it can be done but how?

Any decent heavy duty masonry bit should do the trick. Remember though that you will probably need to be supplying water to the bit while drilling.

diamond disc cutter. ledhed, masonry/concrete bit for marble? masonry bits are usually used in conjunction with a hammer/drill. but i don't see a masonry bit cutting nor drilling marble. but i could be wrong. or not.

How thick is the marble? I wouldn't use a hammer drill on something that could easily crack and cost a buck to replace. Call a place that rents tools, they usually sell the bits for the commerical equiment. Get a recommendation, then shop around for the bit.

A good masonry drill bit should be fine, as far as cutting the square hole if that is what you want, have you thought about using a jig saw or something like that with a blade that looks like it has grit like sandpaper instead of teeth. You should be able to get one at a local hardware store and it may say that it is for steel cutting but, it should be fine for what you are doing. If you use the masonry bit, use it in a regular drill, not a hammer drill.

Save yourself some grief and money. Trot on down to your local marble / stone countertop shop. Ask nicely and they will cut / drill any hole you need. A small investment in some doughnuts as a trade will get you far. You'd be surprised.

Hmmm.... that would be a house call this is the back wash area. My neighbor and house is in a nice area and all house calls are price + if you know what I mean. I think anyone how comes here just think I drip $$. Ha Ha.

Get the right Tips/blades and take your time...

Bizill`s idea is a good one..diamond bits..

Call your local marble shop , or even a contractor that does that type of work and ask the what bit/cutter they would use...

remember...lot`s of water and steady / slow get`s her done

I was able to visit the manufactor and watch it being made, trick stuff.

didn't read the link read-alot posted, but when using diamond bits or wheels, the trick is super-high rpm's.

I just used a carbide grit hole bit on a "fake rock" sink and it said on the package that it would cut marble.

This may be a stupid question, but what makes marble "cultured"? What is the difference in "regular" marble and "cultured" marble? Thanks,

Oh, OK, I see, just like "cultured" pearls are real pearls, but the oysters are raised in a "farm" and they insert a piece of sand in them to start the process, as opposed to "natually" occuring pearls. Thanks for the explanation.

The Marble look with half the price IMHO ;) It's a double sink vanity back splash I need to drill out. I got the RG6 down the wall that was FUN. This is on an outside cinder block wall, but I got here done :) Now the other fun part.
