Polksters,
Looking for a Direct TV HD receiver, for family room. Does not need to be a DVR just in good physical shape. Let me know PM here or post on thread.

Find me a Hughes HR10-250 (HD Tivo), and I'll trade you a Sony HD100 for it, Carlos...:)
I will definitely put this box for sale, once I have the replacement...PM me with what you want to spend, and perhaps I can expedite the transfer.

Call DirecTV and ask for customer retention. If you've been with them awhile, they will give you a non-DVR HD box for practically nothing. I imagine you'd want to get an MPEG-4 box too since all the new HD channels coming this summer/fall will be MPEG-4. Any of the older MPEG-2 boxes will be left in the cold with respect to the new channels.

This is something that I am interested to understand better. Are those new channel line-ups add new HD channels?
I wonder about the final rollout schedule of MPEG-4 and what are they going to do with the rest of the masses?

MPEG4 is already used for all of the HD local channels and most of the RSN HD broadcasts. These are "spot beam" broadcasts.
Later this year, they will be launching 2 new satellites that will provide MPEG4 nationwide broadcasts (not spot beam) for the new HD channels that will be coming in the 3rd/4th quarter.
There is no plan to stop MPEG2 broadcast for all of the non-HD broadcasts and they will most likely keep the handful of MPEG 2 HD channels that are already out there.
For those who want to upgrade the newer boxes (and of course the new 5lnb dish), there is a very large budget to upgrade/retain customers.
I will probably go ahead and do the upgrade after the network shows finish their seasons (in May?)

If you can hold on till the weekend I may have a Hughes E 86 that I will give ya. DishNet came in and switched everything out and it may take me (wife) till then to find where they put my HD boxes. Let me know here if the 86 will work for ya.
