I have posted three questions in my short time here at polk and to my knowledge never received an answer. Is it cause my questions suck? Or no one knows the answers? My posts are invisible? My setup sucks so bad no one wants to tell me? I'm lost here. Anyway I'm bored at work and need some advice. Have rm6900 setup that I got for $399 at Fry's. HK 245 receiver got at amazon for $380. 56 in samsung dlp. And now I bought Rm7400t towers to use as fronts and go to 7.1. They are $220 each online. Good deal? Decent setup? Or did I slowly overpay for what I got in the end?

Perhaps it was what you ask about small satellite speaker systems. Nothing else, we need more Polkies so Stick around.

BTW Welcome :)

I think you are along the right lines. I apologize for not responding earlier, I was unfamiliar with the products you were asking about and didn't want to shoot from the hip.

But, as no one else has chimes in, here are my thoughts. You are off to a good start. HK receivers are great, in my mind, and I have one. If the 245 has pre-outs, go for it. Also check ebay for Harman Kardon refurbs direct from HK. Full warranty, great prices, etc. You may well end up getting more for your $380, or at least getting a better deal on the 245.

Pre-outs will allow you to add separate amplification to your setup down the road. Probably not needed with your current speakers, but if you choose to upgrade in the future (and you will :) ), you'll be able to add a nice, used power amp no problem.

The 7400s look good and will be an upgrade from your current setup. If you like the price (maybe do a completed sales search on ebay and make sure there aren't cheaper options), pull the trigger. As long as it's in your budget, I think you'll do well.

No one gets it 100% right the first time, but you are off to a very good start!

Welcome, and sorry for the slow response time from members!

Don't take it personally. People will answer if they know, and when people post several messages at around the same time, posts will get knocked down to the next page and out of sight. Most of us have unanswered questions. I'm not familiar with the going rate for those items but someone may chime in with their opinion. Have you compared prices at local competitor stores and/or ebay?

These are in good shape (it would seem) and you can probably email the guy direct and try to work a deal. Probably come away with 2 for under $300 shipped.

Not the safest way to buy, but I've done it ALOT with great results.

Thanks for responding gentlemen. I was joking about the other stuff...mostly. I just saw the refurbished stuff on e-bay and was very dissapointed cause I think its too late to return the 245. It's ok because it is good enough and it does have preouts. The $220 each was by far the best price for the 7400 at least new.

the ones on e-bay used are gone now and I king of wanted new anyway

You can contact sellers after the listing has ended, and they are usually willing to sell for cheap if their price/reserve wasn't met.

But, they are not obligated to actually send the item, thus the chances for getting screwed are higher than the typical ebay transaction.

Rebel - Since the RM series is on your hit list, check out Fry's Electronics and Circuit City. They often have some decent prices on the RM series from time to time.

Club Polk HAS to be the most active manufacturer site on the planet - hell, we are more active than some 'general' audio boards. Posts are bound to get lost in the shuffle - but as you found out, a little cattle prod every now and then works.

At the end of the day, we are all here for a common denominator - that 'Polk' sound. Stick around, and welcome to the fold.

Cheers,
Russ

Is that DLP you got one of the new 1080p models? If so, you'll love it.

I would think that what you have there would be a stellar system for apartment dwelling.

rebelluver

no it is a 1080i. I bought that first. then i bought a cheap yamaha htib for some surround. then i find these polk 6900's on sale at fry's for $399. (orig $799) Now I need better receiver and 7.1 and here i go with the bug. (my girlfriend is already pretty annoyed) Will be in a house in about a year so want to plan ahead

Hey if you have a nicer tv than me. I hate you too:D Kidding I dont envy anyone anything they have.

And I can tell you right now you have a nicer system then I did when I first started into audio. Beleive it or not my very first stereo was an old beat up sony pro logic receiver that I bought from a neighbor for $35.00 and I borrowed a pair of bose 401s to listen to it on till the next payday when I bought them.

As far as what you have now is concerned it is probally plenty for an apartment. But im sure that like myself you will always want something nicer so you will upgrade your components slowly but surely till you find audio nirvana. Even then from what I can see the ones that posted on that thread still want one more thing lol.

Welcome to the forum. Stick around post all you want, sometimes things get answered quickly, sometimes they dont get answered at all. I can certainly tell you at least 3 posts on other forums years later still arent answered for me lol.

Yeah I thought buying $400 polk speakers (based on name recognition) I would be set for life. Now look at me

RuSsMaN

Nothing wrong with $400 Polk speakers. I'd be perfectly fine with $400 in Polk in a HT rig.

I've got a TON of hardcore Real Estate connections in Vegas, give me a shout before you head out looking, and I'll get you the hook up. Doesn't matter how far out, we'll get it handled.

Cheers,

If you love it, that's all the matters.. our opinion doesn't matter one iota at all. It's your system, enjoy it. If not, change it. ;)

And YES we hate you. :p

Tough love on the Polk boards!

I can't hate you. I'm a Las Vegas local and UNLV fan too (you wouldn't frequent the rivals website, would you? LOL)

What kind of sub are you running? This could be the fastest and cheepest upgrade to your system (from what I see) you could make.

I went from the RM6600's to the LSi series. (quite a step up, but then again - I wanted no question about the upgrade.)

Call polk Customer Service and see if the new fronts you are thinking about getting will voice match to the RM 6900's you have now. (if not, you may want to get a matching center as well)

Is there any reason you want to stay with the RM line? Nothing wrong with it if you like the looks, sound, or that is all your wife will approve of... just wanted you to be aware there is alot of sound beyond the RM line if you want it and when you are adding speakers anyway is a good time to get your listen on.

Hate is such a strong word... it may be the right word.... but, it is a strong word.

Words of wisdom for the Polk Forum:
Build a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a night.
Light a man on fire and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.

Well like I mentioned, I had a cheap htib system and I saw the RM6900 on sale at Fry's for $399. I did some research and they got great reviews. I thought WOW Polk speakers for $400 I have to have them. Then I needed a new receiver, and two more speakers for 7.1, ect. Now I have them, I realize there are much better options out there, but I already have them. Anyway, it's polk so it's fine for now.

Yeah, started school at UNLV in 1990 (National Champs!) and graduated in 2000. I was on the decade plan.

In an apartment, huh? Do you have HD-DVD or Blu-Ray yet? Maybe you could look at your source. See, I think if I've got what you've got and I'm in an apartment, I squash my upgradeitus and save my money. Later on, splurge on a real nice amp and work from there.

I would like to publically state that I want to internet marry you Rebelluver, as you have captured my heart from the phrase "Does everyone hate me?" I feel your pain and want to snuggle and provide care for you.

If you are man or woman, no problem. If you are an animal, no problem, as I'm actually 50% West Virginia and I love wildlife. The other 50% is family friendly and I've snarled at a couple cousins in my travels.

Let me know ASAP as I have a pre-nup with a Russian prostitute pending.

Love,
