First, I would like to say that I travel a great deal these days and so I don't want to try to have two systems. I would prefer to have something pretty musical and be strong when called into home theater service.

Based on the equipment that I have, would you suggest changing my mains or upgrading my amplification to get more out of them. I started looking around at other mains recently, but then I figured I would go to the place where many have felt/feel my pain and could offer experiences/advice.

Thanks in advance!

If your avr has pre outs,,then I would vote for and amp with good current around the 200w/ch range, parasound, belles 150 hotrod, to mention a couple. Have fun.:)

I vote for a smp as well for a couple of reasons.

First, if you get better speakers, you will also need better electronics to get the most out of them, so your costs will be double or more as opposed to just buying an amp.

Second, used amps can be bought and resold without losing any money. Find a good enough deal, and you may even make a little when you resell. So, it's a riskless option, financially speaking.

I added amps to speakers with less potential that your RTi12s and liked the results. So, you should notice an even greater change by getting yours some good, clean power. The Denon is no slouch, but for $500 or so, you can get a real nice used stereo amp.

Same as everyone else has said. Get a nice amp - you will need it with better speakers anyway.

BTW - 2 channel amp would be fine but since it is for home theater as well, might as well get a nice 5 channel amp and then next upgrade you can decide between a pre/pro or speakers (although based on your sig, I would get a sub even before the amp....) :)

LOL...thanks for all of the input guys. And Michael, you busted me! I've been cheating by not getting the sub yet. I had an M&K MX-125, but I sold it to my brother in a weak moment. I have been surviving until I decide what sub I want. The CS1000P has allowed me to cheat just a tad.

Please give me your opinions on a good 5-channel that won't have me permanently affixed to my couch(by way of the wife). :D

I have a simple question for ya wolfie...
How do YOU like the sound of your system as it is now?

I agree a high current amp will make a big difference on the RTi-12s. I was amazed at the bass my RTi-10s put out after adding an amp. With what your speakers are capable of you will be able to hold out on a sub while you decide.

When I first got my sda's Iwas running them off of an AVR and the sounded awesome. After about a year I bought an Adcom GFA 555 for my front the sda's and they no longer sounded awesome, they sound amazing, and they were even petter with a preamp in stead or the receiver/amp combo. I recently bought a Denon avr and I like a lot, and even more with the Adcom.

That Denon is nice, Opt for a 3 channel to at least even out your front soundstage if the price of the 5 channel is too much. I just ordered a new Outlaw Monoblock due to recommendation here for my center speak so Im hoping that brings new life to my front imaging. Good luck

Niner...It performs well in HT form. But when start listening to some my jazz and such, it's not quite as "musical" as I would like. I realize that having a dedicated 2 channel set up would be ideal, but that's not in play right now. I purchased my first set of Polks back in 1982 and they are more musical...in my opinion; my mother inherited those speakers once I got the Rti12s.
