ISF calibrations

I just got a new LCD tv and am wondering how many of you have had your tvs professionally setup..and did you see a drastic improvement?

I have used the AVIA dvd, but that uses the dvd player as the source. 85% of my viewing is from the DVR cable box..

I noticed that Magnolia offers ISF calibration services..I wonder how much they charge for something like that..

Hello krabby,

I had my Panasonic commercial 8UK calibrated a couple months back with good results. Doug Weil from Clearly Resolved Image & Sound did mine, he is absolutely awesome to deal with, he'll walk you through step by step.

I really didn't notice much of an improvement at first, until about a week later after paying more attention you do notice quite a difference. I had mine calibrated prior using AVIA as well.

BTW, the calibration will usually run you anywhere from $300-400 depending on the number of sources.

I had my DLP done professionally by Avical. It certainly is not cheap but well worth the money. They also calibrate LCD’s. I noticed a difference immediately from all of my sources. If budget is not an issue and you have an extra $450.00 lying around, go for it!

According to JimBRICK it's a complete waste of time, and the dealer or tech is more or less taking your money.

It is not a waste of time or money! Another option to consider is the SpyderTV. I'm almost thinking I should of went this route...

I think I'll try it eventually. It's supposed to be almost as good as professional calibration.

Cost depends on whom it is and how many inputs you have done.
$150 per input here is what I paid.

Is it a waste of money?? NO!!!! It'll be 98% perfect, 100% is un-achievable.

Avia type discs are a waste of money.
What you are doing is correcting for your DVD player, thats it, nothing else.
You cant use the settings for the DVD input changes on other inputs, your player could have a white wash problem, red push and so on, so your adjusting another input based off those settings and it may have a totally different problem.

Spyder, NO WAY!!!!

The main menu you get is not the service menu in which you need to make the real adjustments. You then need a laptop, knowledge of the service menu and access for it. By the time you have the connector, program/knowledge needed, laptop etc, the ISF tech is cheaper unless you learn it well enough to side business what you capable of.
