View Full Version : Speaker choice and placement?*PICS*

My friend is getting a set of RTi12's and a CSi5 soon but is trying to choose between FXi5's or RTi6's for the surrounds. This will be a 5.1 setup for now but will change to a 7.1 later on down the road. Here are some pics of his room. What do you guys recommend for speaker and placement? He will be doing monstly home theater. Click to enlarge.

If his setup is mainly for HT, he should go with Fxi5's. The decision basically boils down to preference, though.

I would also go with FXi's for HT.

I would go with the FXi's also for surrounds.. and not even think about 7.1
the extra power, speaker wire, amps, speakers it takes to wire in two more back surround.. to me just ain't worth it in the long run. my .02

Agreed. Go 5.1 and that's it.

I would vote for 7.1 so I don't have run wire again.

I have the same speakers and the FXI's sound great for home theater could't be happier
I'm considering buying 2 more RTI12's since I have a earthquake 300wpc just to use four of them for 2 channel music

Thanks guys, I think he is going to order the FXi5's. He is going to mount them on the back wall about 2 feet from the cieling. Does this sound ok?

I would a pair FXi5s for sure, as for 7.1 a pair of Rti4s.

He might consider mounting them on the side walls firing towards each other. I used to have my surrounds facing the front and then moved them to the sides and found it to be a nice improvement. It gave it a more spacious feel that also made the transition form the front to back smoother.Three or four feet above ear level should be good.
