View Full Version : Take the Audio Snobbery Test

Since we need an objective means of determining your “audio snob quotient,” I devised this quick and simple test.
Please rate the following statements from 1 to 5, with 5 being the highest:
1. My system is worth more than my car.
2. I typically buy new products from audio dealers.
3. I subscribe to Stereophile magazine and actually read the articles.
4. I buy my audio components based on price because the higher the price, the better it sounds.
5. I buy my audio components based on brand.
6. I buy audio components based on aesthetics.
7. If given the choice between a good marriage and a good system, I would seriously consider the latter.
8. My system sounds better than every other system I’ve ever heard.
9. I wouldn’t be caught dead buying any audio gear from Best Buy, Circuit City, or similar retail establishment.
10. Internet audio forums are for losers who can’t afford a real audio system, so they spend their time jerking off on people like me because they are jealous.
Here’s the scorecard:
If you scored less than 20, your system sucks. Keep trying.
If you scored between 21-40, your system still sucks, but you’re headed in the right direction.
If you scored between 41-50, you’re a stupid bastard for spending so much money on your system.
And if you actually took this test, you have too much time on your hands. Get a job.:D  :D

I scored a 20...happens to be the only score that doesnt have a rating...so I'm going to make my own.
20-Your system is absolutely perfect and everyone should bow before you in amazement and wonder.

I'm only at like 15. But, I put 1 as lowest and not 0. . . or it would've been closer to a 5-6 :)
Splaining:
Audio gear is roughly 1/3 of Acura CL value. 1
New products, never. 1
Stereophile? I can't read. 1
Higher price. . . check the sig. Not so much. 2
Based on brand, I guess. No weird stuff. 2
Thirst is nothing, image is everything. 4
Not married, but assume this to be low. 1
Better than others? Not till I heard someone elses. 1
Best Box, why not. Long as it's on sale. 1
Jerk off, 5. Jerk off on forum members, 1

I'm shocked I got as high as a 23. I buy the best I can for the cheapest I can get it.Uesd if I can find it. My system is worth way less than my BMW. I'd much rather play with my wife than my stereo. And I would NEVER jerk off on anyone on here. Not that I know of anyway.

Pretty much just what MSALLA said, other than I have an 05 F-150 XLT Supercab, and I also don't buy audio from BB, CC, etc.

20 here, but I'd say the test doesn't really capture the idea of "Audio Snob"...
See this quiz is focused on the idea that audio snobbery is defined by a predilection for expensive gear from brands like Krell, as reviewed in stereophile.
I'd say the true measure is whether or not you can talk about gear without sounding like a condescending prick.

We are talking about real high class equipment here, not the everyday joe blow stuff in your livingroom...
How many points did I get for that? :D :D :D
Just kidding,

Here's the definition of "snob:"
1. One who tends to patronize, rebuff, or ignore people regarded as social inferiors and imitate, admire, or seek association with people regarded as social superiors.
2. One who affects an offensive air of self-satisfied superiority in matters of taste or intellect.
Unc -- I agree with your last statement. The majority of people who buy audio gear are men. Most guys, by virtue of innate bravado, have a tendency to perpetuate the "big dick" mentality, i.e., mine is bigger than yours. So, in terms of audio, aren't we all a bunch of condescending pricks? (except Darla and Cathy, of course). :D

Yep. Our gear sounds better than most others. Period. Am I a snob for making that statement? No. Just tellin' the truth...

I bet if you went into most homes you would be lucky to find a sony HTIB. Considering that, everyone on here owns a system well above average.
