I have a pair of SDA 2As that I purchased in 1987. They are still in 'show room' condition but the tweeters are going bad, noisy and crackly sounding. They have performed beautifully for 20 years but they finally need a little work. I ran across this forum in my quest for replacement tweeters. I have been reading various threads for a couple of days and have discovered that there appear to be a few options for replacements. The original tweeters are the SL2000s, according to the liturature/documentation. Some of the posts that I've read mention the SL2500s, SL3000s, RD0194-1s and a Peerless model. I have contacted the Polk parts/service department and the SL2000s are available but I've read that they have some undesireable characteristics?
Sooooo, what should I replace the existing SL2000s with? I would prefer a drop in replacement (mounting dimensions, etc). I would hate to try to modify these beautiful cabs to fit other drivers.
I've also read posts regarding polyswitches. Are the SDA 2As fused internally? Should I replace/add polyswitches? Are the polyswitches just for the tweeters or are they also used to protect the mid/bass drivers as well? Can I purchase the polyswitches from Polk parts?
As you can probably tell, I don't know much about speakers and any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks much!
