Yet another repetitive question... I have the sub cable connected to my sub pre-out on my avr and then Y'd off into the line level inputs instead of into the LFE. I noticed it seems more responsive this way but do I need put the crossover to 160 and adjust the phase to 180? This is the part where I get a lil bit lost. I used the Audessy calibration and it set all the speakers to large etc. Thanx! I guess if we all weren't so anal we wouldn't have good sound! lol!!

Suggested and widely accepted setup:

1. Set the speaker size in the AVR to small (even though the auto thing said large).
2. Set the crossover in the AVR to 80.
3. Leave the speaker distances set to whatever the AVR set them to during setup.
4. Connect the sub cable into the LFE input, not the L+R inputs.
5. Use an SPL meter to balance all speaker levels and the sub to 75dB with the master volume set at 0.
6. Tweak to taste.

The LFE input on the sub bypasses the sub's crossover and assumes the crossover is being handled by the AVR. The L+R inputs run through the subs crossover. this can lead to problems if a crossover is also being done in the AVR.

If you're intent on leaving the speakers set to large, then use the l+r input on the sub (since the AVR's crossover is bypassed when speakers are set to large) and set the crossover on the sub to the -3dB point of the main speakers response. You will also have to set the subwoofer setting in the AVR to LFE+MAIN or the sub won't ever receive any signal at all for sources that dont contain a .1 channel.

I use and recommend the first setup.

I would also play with the sub at 100 and 120 to see how it sounds to you.
Do small on speakers your sub will do a better job with the LF.

For the speaker selection it says either "full-band" or you can select the "hz". What would be the proper "hz"? Maybe around 120hz? This is the worst part for me..I never got into all the hz, db's , etc..lol. I appreciate it guyz!

I presume this means you can set the crossover in your AVR for every speaker. The proper starting point would be 80hz for each speaker. Remember after setting this to move the sub cable from the l+r inputs to the LFE input.

Set each speaker to full range and small then change sub freq. to 80 hz then 100 hz then 120 hz and so on.to see what sound best to you. Page 67 starts manual speaker setup.

9. Use the Up and Down [ ]/[ ]
buttons to select “g. LPFofLFE,”
and then use the Left and Right
[ ]/[ ] buttons to select a lowpass
filter frequency.
The following low-pass filter frequencies
can be selected: 80 Hz, 100 Hz,
120 Hz (default), 150 Hz, or 200 Hz.

Yes, but...

Depends on your left and right speakers, placement, and many other factors. I would try 80Hz first and see how well the transition is from the 70Hz-100Hz range, and then try the 100Hz setting to see which blends better.
