Hey folks,

I moved my 2-channel setup from a fairly large room with carpet to a relatively small room that has wooden floors. On top of that, this room is quite noisy since it is close to the road.

Now the bass seems quite boomy and not very appealing - is this due to the size of the room and the wooden floors?

Any suggestions of treating this room to make it a little more noise proof?

So any suggestions on improving the overall listening experience of this room room would be greatly appreciated! Since it is a rented place, I cannot make any structural changes.

Thanks!

Got any pics? What are the room dimensions? Do you have floorstanding or bookshelf speakers?

Got a throw rug? What about draperies, furniture, etc. in the room?

Both due to room size/design and the floor. Get a carpet on the floor. Put some curtains up and other things on the walls to absorb the sound and keep it from bouncing around the room. Make some bass traps and put them in the corners. Add some big furniture - a couch is a good bass absorber. Get the sub off of the floor. Buy some of those rubber mats sold for kids' playrooms and put the sub on top of a couple of them. Decouple it from that wooden floor man! (that'll make a big diff) I realize you said 2 channel rig and may not have a sub - if so then get the mains off of the floor, too. Do it regardless.
