View Full Version : Banana Plug question

I have a pair of Signal Cable speaker cables that Frank generously donated to the Chicago PF. They are terminated with spades and they are too beefy for me to attach to the Vampire terminals on the SDA's. I can't get them to snug up well enough to keep the spade firmly in place. When I attempt to use pliers to lightly snug them up I can feel the Vampire terminal starting to turn in the terminal cup. I'm not a big fan of spaded anyways.

My plan is to remove the spades and terminate with banana plugs, these specifically.

1st question: Does anyone have any other links to 'nanna plugs that are similar than these but not a whole lot more expensive? I like the fact that they use 2 screws to secure the wire. I also like that they are the expanding type

2nd question: Has anyone dealt with Orang County Speaker? Are they reputable? Do they deliver a quality product as stated? Shipping by USPS is only $5.95

I'm open to any and all suggestions.

Bro, these are what I just purchased. (http://vampirewire.com/mcart/index.cgi?code=3&page=1&cat=7) Not cheap but great quality and very easy to handle and install.

I purchased the two last nanners on the page. Hope this helps. BTW I ordered them on a Tuesday night and had them in my hands Thursday morning.

Similar deal on the locking nanners, plus a few other inexpensive options.

Heiney,
I have some of these sitting in a drawer. There are 2 screws for securing the wire and are 24K plated. This is a stock photo of them, but the ones I have are identical. If you want them let me know.

Leave the spades on and buy some compression type banana plugs to attach to the spades. Problem solved.

See part #SB in HI's link. Theses plugs can be found a lot cheaper all day on ebay.

They're the same exact ones I bought from Orange County. Excellent product, they shipped in record time & they were great to deal with. The plugs look like they cost a lot more & they work great. I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them.

That's a great idea, but a bit pricey. I found these also, which for 8 are going to be pricey as well. I'm not nec. looking for cheap stuff, just the best deal.

How about Eichmann Bayonets? I have a set of those on my cables, they work great...A little costly though.

I use these GLS bananas on the amp end and the non locking versions on the speaker and and like em fine. The only issue I have with them is that they seem to have one piece too many pieces that screw together and they tend to loosen up over time and need retightening. Minor gripe. Otherwise very easy to use. I just ordered some gold plated Nakamichi bananas with dual screws that look a little less bulky than the GLS for my 2ch system.

Did the Nak's come from a seller in Hong Kong? Let me know how it goes. I've seen those on ebay and almost pulled the trigger a couple of times, but the Hong Kong thing scared me away.

With respect to orange county speaker... I have dealt with them and they ship fast and reliably.

Buy from them if the deal is what you are looking for. The bananna plugs with the two screws are great, easy to work with, grip the wire really well, (I have used 12g wire with success). Go for it. The different brands aren't all that important... Orange County Speaker is pretty good so I think you have a safe bet.

How about the locking bananas from Blue Jeans Cable.

I've had them on my mains speaker wires for about a year.

They are gold plated.. $5.25 pair.

Yup, $20 shipped and I crossed my fingers. I've actually gotten a number of items from China or Thailand and they always arrived within a week with no problems.

They arrived last week while I was away, so pretty quick turnaround. They're the real deal, packaged very efficiently, and I'm happy. So there ya go :p

Sorry if this is off topic, but has anyone found a good dealer for nanners in Canada? The cheapest I found were futureshop at $10 / 4 plugs, but they're one screw acoustic research and mediocre at best (seem to fall out easily no matter how well you tighten the little tiny screw - and they don't carry them anymore).
