Just got back from seeing this.

This movie just seemed to drag on and on and on...

I'll spare any spoilers, but here are my gripes. First off, too long. They tried to stuff way too much into this flick. It seemed to get lost at times. Also, Jack Sparrow, IMO, lost his coolness factor. He was good, but not near the character he was in #1.

On the good side, the SFX and sound were top notch as expected. This will make one hell of a demo DVD when it hit the stores.

Anyone else see it?

John

I'm going to wait for a rental on this one. I bought #2 blindly and have watched it once, no rewatch factor with it, this seems to be getting even worse reviews.

I will buy the first one on Blu-ray though, that one is great.

I liked it.

Was kind of long - but good movie. Can't be as good as the first, but.... definitely a buy for me.

Wow...where to start. How about that I was looking at my watch less than an hour into the movie only to find out I still had over two hours left to watch.

Man this was such a mess from the start. I could go on and on about how much I really disliked this movie. (See I said dislike)

There was a lot to like about it, the CGI was great, the last 30 minutes was fantastic. But there were so many deals and double crossings that after a while my kids kept asking me what was going on. They were really, truly lost. And that is where this movie fails. None of it made any sense, and all i could think is why could they not stick to a strong one maybe two sided story and just give us some great pirate action.

On how to make a story simple just reminded me of Terminator 3. When I first heard T3 was under two hours all I could think of is how are they going to fit such a great new story in under 120 minutes...but you know what, Mostow pulled it off, it was straight to the point, a lot of great action, and it worked.

POTC:AWE goes the opposite and tries to one up the Wachowski brothers on how to make a horrible end to a great trilogy. Happily (I guess?) Gore Verbinski succeeds in not passing the Matrix.....all though he comes very close at times.

Look we don't need to see if you can pass LOTR....you can't. Pirates is in it's own class and sadly it ended in a long, drawn out wimper.

Save your money folks and give this a rent if you need to waste three hours.

Well said Sean. Your kids were not the only ones getting confused. There were times I was saying...WTF??? It seemed as though they took a ton of material and threw it in the blender. After a night to sleep on it, huge letdown!

Bring on Transformers!

Saw it last night with the kids. I dozed off at least 3 times in that time frame. I noticed that the PQ varies, in some dark shots, it was grainy. But, in most outdoor scenes, excellent.

We should have gone for Shrek 3, instead. It was a long night indeed.

I liked it, I didn't know what was so hard to follow about it, didn't feel like there was any lag in the action every thing was kept a good pace, didn't even feel like 3 hours. I didn't see the ending going the way it did but I still really enjoyed it. I'll have a space waiting for on shelf when it hits BD.

Im not suprised this one got a little too convoluted. I got lost a couple times myself during the 2nd one!

I loved the first one. The last two - not so much. This is how not to do a 2 1/2 + "Epic." And this coming from a guy who loves the 4 hour Dances With Wolves and 3 1/2 Apocalypse Redux.

This one was a train wreck that was so bad that it almost degrades the first movie due to it's vast suckiness....

I'll agree that it was too long, but it did manage to keep me pretty entertained. Unlike Spider Man 3. Now that was garbage.

Saw it yesterday. Loved the first one. Saw 1/2 of the second one on DVD. Boring. Had to run off to work but I never felt inclined to finish it.

I recommend viewing the 2nd one before watching the third one. Looks like they left the ending open for #4.

Not a bad movie. Loved the special effects. Drags here and there.

Well, if it's any consolation, Keira Knightley is gorgeous in part 3. She looked her best out of the 3 in this last installment.

Bingo. Not to mention all of the plot lines left dangling with no finality. I'd throw this in with the mundane summer entertainment value.

How can you guys say this? I thought it was a top notch film! It made perfect sense from start to finish. Didn't leave any ends hanging, and explained everything. WAY better than #2 and just as good as #1 in my book.

Still original in so many ways, it felt like 1.5 hrs, not 3! I left feeling so happy... unlike the Matrix 3 or Spiderman 3, this one actually was done the right way! It was a rock solid ending to a rock solid trilogy.

I have to say I went in with lower expectations after reading what everybody was saying about it, but I couldn't be happier with the film. The best money I've spent on a ticket this year! Bravo!

Honestly, you critics, what was wrong with the film? What didn't make sense? I, for one, would go see it again.

What a disaster of a movie. It was boring and dragged on. 1 hour 45 minutes that movie should have been over.

I agree with you 500%

I went to the movie wanting to enjoy it...and I did.

I really liked this movie. It was long though. I hope they make another! They left this one open for another sequal.

How is it for kids in the 10 year old range? Is it like the others or more intense?

MrNightly

Very similar to the others... I wouldn't say it was more intense at all... Of course, I don't have a 10 year old, but still.

We saw it and while I liked it better then the second that's not saying much.

It has no charm that the first film had, the cast was boring, the story was simple and the action, too much.

The two best parts of the film, having Barbosa back and seeing Keith Richards. I bet they didn't have to put too much makeup on that guy though.

...and that 10 year later ending....GAY!

I give it a 4/10.

A 4?! You have to be kidding me. A 4?!? Are you serious?!

Why was the 10 year ending Gay? It was the only way he was gonna live was to stab the heart... and therefore he became the Captain. I personally loved it!

Agree with the majority - just awful. If there was a coherent story, I didn't care enough to follow it. Way too long, pointless, excruciating. I ended up playing with my Nintendo DS halfway through and barely glanced up for the next 90 minutes.

Watched it on DVD 2 nights ago, then watched it again with the kids. Much better the second time. Of corse I didnt pay much attention to it the second time. But I still enjoyed massive rumbles of the cannon balls and ship fight sene.

Glad it was a friend of mine who plunked down the cash for this one on Bluray...we both thought it sucked bigtime just like the second one. Neither of these 2 could hold the first installments jock strap :(
