I am looking to incorporate a new to me CD player for my 2 channel listening pleasure. Right now I have $ 500 tucked away and figured that was a good start. I could sell my Monitor 5's from garage set up to free up a little more scratch but I think I am reaching my point of diminishing returns considering my gear. I only own 1 SACD. I am not sure which format is for me because I have not heard any of them. I have been looking on the gon and here for CD players but I don't really know what I am looking at or for.
The new CD player will be the source in my 2 channel rig as you see in my sig below. I may up grade to a common ground tube amp with more power so I can use my SDA's. I am currently happy with my RTA 11t's and the SDA 2 B's and don't see any major upgrades to anything more than a pair of mid sized SDA's.
I will hang up and listen.
Thanks,
Scott

What about the Sony in the Flea market. It has SACD.

Seems that half the world is using the Rotel RCD-1072. I was looking at a couple on Agon in the $500 range. Think cfrizz might have that.

Sony ES and the Rotel RCD-1072 would make the list.

I would not consider above $500 to be diminishing returns. In my experience, if anything, going above $500 starts to really show the differences between okay CDPs and really good ones.
Russman, among others here, have said great things about the Rotel. Sid and I love our Shanling CDT100 (~$1000). Consider the CDP by Music Hall also.

You can come over and listen to my Sony C555ES if you're interested. Mine's not for sale, but at least you could put your ears to one in a set up with 2B's before you pull the trigger.

Sounds like the audio powers to be have smiled upon you. If one of those CDPs don't make you happy, there isn't much hope left.
For me, the Rotel or the Arcam would do it. Both good players for the money.
Jolida aint too shabby, either.

I know this will get me burned at the stake, but I always used a record changer (i.e., stacked albums and they dropped on one another) and I have had only one single play CDP. I know the quality is supposed to be much better, but I really like the convenience of multiple play. I suppose for serious listening where I am focused on the music, I would be willing to get up from my chair every 50 minutes to insert a new disk. Jaba the Hut (sp?)

Thoughts anyone?
If you've got a DAC the Sony is great for the price.
I heard Russ' Arcam at the Lone Star Audio Fest and thought it was spectacular! I've put it on my short list of transports after I get a decent pre/amp or integrated.

I am leaning to the Jolida side of the fence. I have the scratch but I am still thinking. From what I have read it will tame the harsh high end I am experiencing with my free CD players and have read that it has some tight/punchy bass which will work well with my current equipment and room.
The only CD player I have heard worth anything was Schwingdings Denon 2910 and he has upgraded also.
SS - Onix CD5 (http://www.av123.com/products_product.php?section=processors&product=48.1) $399 3 year warranty. Upgrades available through Underwood hi-fi (http://www.underwoodhifi.com/).
Tube - Jolida JD100 - upgrades available through HRAM (http://www.hotrodaudiomods.com/cjojd100.html).

I just recently picked up an Arcam CD72T and have been nothing but pleased with it. I like it far better than the Cambridge Audio 640C I had.

I want to get an Arcam player at some point.
I really like the flexibility of my sony SACD through the Theta DAC, tho. Especially since I need the volume controlled headphone out it provides.

I've been happy with my Rotel 1072 as a transport, but it compared really well with my Bel Canto DAC2 which by most accounts ain't no slouch in its own right.
