The 9's sound more balanced. The 20's sound a bit bright.
The 9's will require a better amp to sound good (4 ohm 88 db)
VS. the 8ohm 89db. right now there are some good deals on the 9's

I almost took home some Paradigm Studio 20 V3s on sleazbay the other day. . .but, of course, I got sniped.
Kind of pissed, too, they look nice.
However, if I had to choose between 9's and Studio 20's, I'd go 9's. I'd go 9's now, but they're way too big. I'd probably even go 7's over 20's. . . but can't find any at Tweeter in Ebony.

I have the Paradigm Studio 20.v3 in my bedroom system. I had a pair of LSi7's to compare against for a while. I would take the 20's over the LSi7's for music. The 20's are more dynamic, throw a bigger soundstage, and you hear less of the box. OVerall, for music I think the 20's are a better speaker than the LSi7's. For HT, I would take the LSi9's over the 20's without a doubt. For music, I would still have to take the 20's over the LSi9's. I just really like the big soundstage, less picky on placement, and the overall more forward presentation of the 20's. Your mileage may vary!
The Paradigm Studio Reference series has a very detailed tweeter. I don't consider it to be "bright", but it is very detailed and forward. You definetely wouldn't want to pair them with a series of bright or detailed components. I have run them with NAD receiver and CDP and they sounded great. I have also run them with a Parasound HCA-1000 and the Dodd ELP and a Rotel CDP and they sounded fantastic.

The Lsi9's would be better compared to the Studio 40's. Why not Lsi7's?

You could see if they would order them for you.

My experience with the Paradigm Studio series is excellent but they certainly throw a different soundstage than the LSi series. They are more forward and detailed, just like DKG stated. I've always liked the Studio series but never a real interest to own them.
Two different designs, two different results, sort of a no-brainer.
