Another audio mystery. If you buy one and review it, We all would be
grateful!:D
There are several products from that site that look interesting.
Other than the Bada CDP and a DAC, I haven't seen much. A couple of links
to an inside reviewer. The only good reviews came via Afordable Audio.

I'm pulling the trigger! I'll let you know what I think. From what I can tell it should be a nice player. Sony optics, philips servo, 24bit/192kHz dac, and tube output. A cap upgrade would probably help. I wonder if this will sound better than the rotel 1072 ?

The CD player came today. Its build very solid. Machined aluminum faceplate and thick sheet metal for the casing. The remote is a solid block of aluminum! It sounds really nice so far. I've only listened to it through headphones, but I like what I hear! I'll have to listen to it more before I comment on the sound. But heres some eye candy in the meantime.

Have you tried the different sampling rates yet?

Yes, very briefly with norah jones. I honestly couldn't tell a difference. I only listened to one song on each sampling rate though.

Well, after a month of owning it, and ironically just as I go to sell it, the cd player starts acting up...and pacific valve wants NOTHING to do with it since I bought it from audiogon.
The left channel has started making popping noises. Kinda like popcorn popping. Is only in the left channel. I tried changing cables still there. I tried re-setting the tubes, cleaning sockets, cleaning pins, and tried a new pair entirely and still have popping noises. There is a TI OPA2406 op amp that I;m about to replace from digi-key. maybe that will solve it. I'm at a loss and would appreciate any info.
Here is the first email I sent to pacific audio:
Hi, I recently bought a MHZS CD 33 from audiogon. It worked great for about a month, but it has now developed a static noise that is mostly in the left channel. It's present on multiple recordings and sounds like popcorn popping. Any ideas what could be causing it. I have two sets of JAN GE 5670 tubes and both sets have the popping noise.
Chris
They replied with:
Did you buy it from us?
I replied with:
No, my email said I bought it from audiogon.
They finish communication with:
Sorry - we really cannot be of any help here since we do not know its origin. Thanks anyway.

Not many points gained by Pacific there......
Have you isolated the problem to the player? Could it be that the it is coming from the amp/cans?

I was able to isolate the problem to the cd player. I tried different headphones and had the same problem. I hooked the cd player up to another stereo and I thought my girl was making popcorn!

You guys are being too hard on Pacific Valve. They are sales people, not technicians. The techies are across the water.

Probably bad soldering somewhere in the left channel circuitry. Had it happen before. Could be fixed for around $60-$80 if that's what it is.
I agree with Pacific Valve's point on grey market gear. They act as the middle man and import product that's guaranteed by the manufacturer in China. Stuff they don't import and sell isn't their responsibility. Since the grey market piece was purchased from a seller on Audiogon (Audiogon doesn't sell anything), best bet is to contact the seller. I suspect you're on your own on this one though, unless the seller originally got it from Pacific Valve.

Agree they are no technicians...but their answer is not from a salesman that cares about potential customers either....they could have said something like " we are sorry you are having problems with your player; unfortunately we cannot help you because we have no technical support staff; we recommend you go to x or y to have it checked, or get in touch with the manufacturer at ......."

Pacific valve is being more helpful now. I was able to get some information from their tech. He suspected the op amp just as i did. I have a new one coming from digikey, so hopefully that solves the problem.
I don't think I was being too hard on pacific valve. I wasn't asking for warranty work or anything like that. I just wanted to see if they had any technical advice, which took a few sarcastic emails to finally get.
