give me some recommendations for a HU and amps. I'm thinking of SR 12 inch subs and Sr 6500 comps in the front- right now... no rear fill.... I was thinking Memphis 16MCH1300 amp and I need a HU designed for SQ, hopefully with a color screen...

Find a sub amp that makes 700+ RMS and a 2 channel amp with 100+ RMS.

As for head units, it depends on how much you can afford. I like Alpine myself but Eclipse and Pioneer are also very good.

Does the amp acutally matter for SQ? I've heard some amps let you have a cleaner or warmer sound than others. Do you have a specific idea or model number for the HU?

Any amp that would change the sound from the source unit, you dont want. Look at the frequency response of any amp. Its ruler flat from 20-20KHz. Thats as it should be.

Now there are concerns like noise. My Crossfires, while powerful are very noisey. They have a major turn off pop that drives me crazy and costs me points. They also seem to be feeding out some distortion on the high end stuff.

So long as the amp is well made, makes its rated power and fits within your budget, thats what matters.

No specific model number on HU's. You gotta figure that out for yourself. Browse around Crutchfield and Cardomain and see what models you like best and which have the tuning features you want.

Thanks anyway. So... You ever hear of the Memphis Belle? It's a 5 channel, and I've heard great things about it. But, should I go with two amps, or is it safe to just jack everything into one amp?

Its plenty safe. Memphis makes pretty solid amps so it wouldnt be a bad choice.

The good thing about 5 channels is ease of installation and theyre in a nice small package.

The downside is theyre not the most powerful.

Its got 1000 for the subs, which is plenty I think, and 100 per channel for the speakers, and 250 for only 2 channels- it's powerful enough I hope.

I heard that for the Pioneer Premiers, the 8800PRS was the best for a reasonable price (for SQ) but it is not color. The only color one they make is the 980BT, and it has all the same features audio wise that the 8800PRS has- is there a difference I am not seeing?

There are about 5,000,000 different head units out there. I cant narrow down the differences between each.

Figure out how much money youre wanting to spend on a head unit. Then go to Crutchfield.com and pick the one that looks best to you and meets that budget figure. As long as its either a Kenwood, Alpine, Ecliplse, Panasonic, Clarion, JVC or Pioneer youll be fine.
