Hello All,
Has anybody here ever bought renters insurance?
If so, which one do you use or can you tell me which ones to stay away from.
Thanks,
Sal

Yes I move from apartment to apartment once a year for my job. Everywhere I go I get renter's insurance because it is so cheap! My parents and I use State Farm for all of our insurance needs (auto, home, renter's,etc.) so I know that I am getting it at a discount but if you need a reference I am getting $20k worth of coverage for $75/ year (it varies a little of course depending on where I am at the time). Hope this helps, although thankfully I've never had to file a claim so I can't really give you any feedback on the post-sale service.

$25K coverage for $12 a month in LA. I personally think its worth it...you never know who might be eyeing up your stereo!

I use State Farm for Auto/House/Life, great deal and no problems over the last 28 years I been using them. Lasareath, you are smart to have Renter's Insurance, it's cheap and oh so necessary.

Buy it! Make sure you get replacement cost for your valuables and complete a schedule of your "most Valuable Items". Sometimes with replacement policies, the insurance company will want to buy you a Crosby CD player to "replace" your Musical Fidelity TriVista. Or, a Yakahuchi plasma to replace your Pioneer Elite. They will argue, same size same function, you're good to go.Make sure you ask these questions and get the coverage you want in writing. Get the riders that will replace your $10K Marantz &c with another Marantz 7C in similar condition.
But let's face it, if it cost you an arm and a leg for like for like replacement value, it may not be Worth it. SDA1C can be had for $500. If the insurance is $1,000 per year for this coverage. Shop elsewhere or forget about it. I had good luck with Liberty Mutual.

Get replacement value and nothing else.
Here's a senario, you bought your Polk Sda 1C's new for $1700 20 years ago. Dumbass burgler breaks into your house and steals them. Insurance company says 20 year old Polk Sda's are worth $300. Where can you buy SDA 1C's for $300?
Full replacement covers the cost to replace them at today's price.

Just don't use Allstate for it.
Like H9 said above...."REPLACEMENT VALUE"!!!

A must have not just to protect yourself from those looking for 5 finger discounts but from accidents caused by other's neglect or stupidity (fire & water damage).

Usually going with whoever your car insurance is through will get you a bit of a discount.
And personally just get it. Living without renters insurance (especially in a apartment complex) is just not a good thing to do. I have personally seen 4 friends go through this and it is devastating personally and financially. All because someone left an iron on, or another tenant was cooking drugs and passed out.

I would not rent without insurance. I also had state farm. For $15 a month I was coverd for everything. It even coverd things like if my kid lft her bike on the sidewalk and someone tripped and broke an arm and sued, I was coverd.

I took the renter's insurance due to monthly cost versus hassle of replacement costs of all my valuable stuff out of my own pocket. I received a multi-line discount due to having my car insurance, life insurance and renter's insurance all with one carrier: State Farm.
