A family film, thru and thru.

If you think this is a Fantasy, you've come to the wrong place... almost every fantasy aspect is shown in the previews... still, for a kids movie, it was extremely well done.

I was slightly disappointed, because I assumed it was more of a fantasy, than a kids movie, but regardless, it was touching. And believe it or not, the twist at the end had me almost in tears...

Besides that, a solid family film, very clean for the kids, with excellent acting. Zooey Deschanel has a small role, and that is always a good thing in my book :) The new girl, (AnnaSophia Robb - Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) was extremely cute as well...

6 outta 10 stars here. If you want a nice slow drama, with kids in it, then it's a good rental. If you want a fantasy like "Lion witch and wardrobe" then you better pass... My 2 year old daughter loved it... so whatever that means.

Sounds like it's on the fantasy level of Pan's Labyrinth, so I'll pass.

It's a kids movie for sure... I too was expecting more of a fantasy theme to it. For that it was kind of disappointing but still well done (for a ten year old audience).

I actually got asked if I were eligible for a childs admission (12 and under) when I went to see this movie in theaters. That's just painful. (I'm 19)

Not what I expected either. Definately more of a kid's movie. I was hoping for more fantasy. My nine year old was engrossed in the story. MrNightly's assessment is right on the money.

I really enjoyed this movie. The trailers made it look like a cheap Narnia rip-off, when in fact it was an extremely well done view of middle-school life, dealing with changes, etc. It actually made me nostalgic for my middle school years, which is hard to do! I'd give it a 9 / 10.

You actually feel and wonder for the protagonists...brings back memories of childhood and parenthood. While all children under 12 will enjoy this film, what stands out is that most adults will as well. Very well done film...
