06-19-2007, 11:16 PM
What:

The first (to my knowledge?) polkfest held in BC - Anything audio, selling, buying, listening, bbq'ing etc.

When:

Saturday January 26, 2008 - Starts at 2:30ish and ends when it ends

Where:

My house in Richmond / Steveston, BC. Actually taking place within a rec center in my co-op. It should comfortably fit 20/25 people with gear. I will PM or email the exact address closer to the date to those attending, probably sometime in early January. Actual address will be pm'd / emailed closer to the event.

Who:

Anyone can come - just give me numbers

I will be hosting and updating the master guest list in this post. Please let me know if you plan to attend and who you're bringing so I can keep a good perspective as to how big it will be and how much food will be needed. The date is pretty firm as we are getting closer and closer to the end of the year.

I have posted it on DIYaudio.com Here (http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=1302555#post1302555).

*** For any inquiries, please either post here or email me at polkfest@gmail.com (polkfest@gmail.com)***

It'll happen if people show up. *hint hint*

I know January isn't the best time, but its not like it gets that cold in Richmond anyways. It'll be worth it to have it around then if Janmike can come down. One more polkie is always a good thing.

Have fun folks.

There aren't but 3 Polkies in Colorado.

That's what I was worried about with the vancouver one, but I figure it's worth a shot.

Well, if some of the Seattle or Portland area Polkies wanted to head North for PF08-Canada they could. ;)

I'll be there Michael. Great job on heading this up.
For any of you that have not been to BC you are in for some spectacular scenery. Absolutely gorgeous and NO it is not freezing.

I better start applying for my passport now.

I could bring Carver Silver 9Ts.

michael_w
06-20-2007, 11:39 AM
It'll probably be 5 / 41 degrees come January.

Good to hear you'll be able to make it Mike!

It's about an hour drive from the border so I expect to see some Seattle / Portland polkies :D

woofiepaws, the carvers would be awesome to bring up. I'm not sure how the whole border thing would work out but the last audio meet I went to the guys brought up thousands worth of electronics and speakers for the day and they didn't mention any issues.

Bump!

Two confirmed so far... and I think dave / phoneisbusy is going to try and make it as well? So what about some residents of Spokane and Puget Sound *hint hint* :)

July bump.

A new three burner stainless steel bbq just made it into my backyard for just over a benjamin. I think this is a sign that January bbq'ing must happen.

Such a decisive bunch ;)

I do realize it's seven months away so I don't expect a lot of "Absolutely I'll be there". I'll be bumping this once in a while and hope to firm up plans and guest lists come December.

Michael, I will be flying down so bringing gear will be a problem. But what I could bring is my MIT Shotgun S1 bi-wires.

michael_w
07-04-2007, 11:32 AM
I figured it would be a bit difficult to bring anything on a plane and to trust the hotel with it. If you want to bring the wire that would work well since I don't really have any decent cabling. It would also make for a good a/b with my home depot in-wall (not actually installed in the wall - just used in-wall grade).

I won't go because it's in "Richmond" B.C. A couple of years ago the transmission in my motorhome failed in "Richmond" Virginia. 2 weeks ago my cars' transmission failed in "Richmond" Georgia. With my luck the plane will probably crash in Richmond B.C.

Does it help any that I don't actually live in Richmond? It's being held in "Steveston" (much better than Richmond ;) ).

You are flying into Vancouver. Or, fly to Calgary, rent a car, see Jasper and Banff and then drive to the Polk Fest. Hell of a trip.

michael_w
08-18-2007, 12:22 AM
Hahaha.... well he HAS to go through Richmond to get to my house. Bus from Van? It'll take half an hour and if something breaks on the bus, no biggie :D

Since it looks like we're lacking a little bit in the attendance area what do you guys say about me throwing this up on DIYAudio.com? The people over there are crazy for anything audio and their past audio meets have been pretty fun. And to point out the obvious... it would probably bring a few diy speakers and electronics into the mix. Maybe even get RAW, Exodus, Adire, CSS and some of the others into the mix (they hang out on the diyaudio.com forum).

danger boy
09-11-2007, 05:33 PM
sounds like a fun bunch those DIY gang.. sure.. the more the merrier... but i'm not hosting it.. so it's up to you. but I say invite..

What sort of numbers do we have so far?
I'd love to hear Al's new OB-2x speaker if he'd loan a pair out.

Sadly, Adire is no more. :(

Oooo I didn't know they had an open baffle design. Cal from the last meet did a similar design (with more random parts) and it sounded pretty good. Infinite baffles have a unique sound and do some things really well, others not so much so to combine the two is intriguing.

Yes... Adire was nuked a while ago. It's a shame since they made lots of waves in the diy crowd, especially with the xbl^2. Killer affordable audio parts was what I always though of first when Adire was brought up.

I don't know of anyone bringing sda's yet. I have monitor 7b's, but have yet to get my ears on a pair of sda's.

I will post it over on the diyaudio forum later tonight and see what they have to say about it.

The word is out on the diyaudio.com forum. I know there are quite a few people from the lower mainland on that board so I think we'll pick up at least a couple.

We've managed to snatch a couple diyaudio members for the meet! I'm still working on finding more because I know for sure there are a few more people that would be interested in coming.

Music people, Music! If lugging speakers and electronics over isn't your thing, how about a couple of your favorite cd's?

What kind of food does everyone want? I was thinking of keeping it simple with burgers & hot dogs. Any allergies or special requests?

Secret location has been emailed out. Give me a call, email, pm or post here and I'll answer any questions.

OH and it looks like you guys are all stuck parking somewhere on the road. There isn't enough guest parking within the co-op.

danger boy
01-11-2008, 04:18 PM
wow. i forgot all about this gathering.. i can't make it so i'm out. but you Polkies have a great time.. take lots of pics of the gear and attendees.. and the food too. ;)

Only a couple days away so I'll bump this.

No need to bring anything other than audio related stuff. Address has been emailed to those attending, and if I missed anyone please email me at polkfest@gmail.com

It's not at my actual house, but the rec center in the same co-op. It'll be the building directly in front of you when you start making your way through the co-op. It makes up that little curve in the co-op - the only place that doesn't look like a normal house.

Parking is out on the street somewhere but if you need to bring gear in you can park temporarily outside the rec center on either side of the black & red 1968 beetle.

They're forecasting snow / mixed rain for Saturday so keep that in mind if you're driving truck with an open bed and speakers or electronics in the back.

micheal w, how many people are planning to attend? sorry i can't be there.. sounds like fun.. mini PolkFest Canadian style :) eat some bacon for me. get it? Canadian bacon  ;)

michael_w
01-25-2008, 12:58 AM
I believe about 10 people? Small, but for a first gathering that's probably not too bad and considering we only have a few polkies in the area.

Maybe next time we'll get some spokane members ;) Preferably in a little warmer weather too. Mmmmm bacon / ham / one magical animal.

Been in Vancouver for 2 days. I'm in short sleeves - cool but nice. Looking forward to meeting you folks. See you Saturday.

Thanks for the hospitality Michael. I was very impressed with the small speakers you built. Nice to meet the folks from the DYI Forum, but too bad more of the Polk member from the Vancouver area could not make it. Great job on organizing this event. Thanks again.

michael_w

Thanks for making the trip down. It was a pleasure having everyone there.

Those small speakers always seem to impress me too when they're set up right in a large room.
