Truly, an incredible speaker. They sound excellent at low volumes, they image well, play music very well. Maybe its just because of my SDA love, but there just seems to be a lot of magic in these vintage drivers.
They aren't the pinnacle of accuracy, imaging, depth, etc, and no doubt there are better looking speakers... but damn it, they rock the music real well. I have them hooked up to a Trends Audio TA-10, 7 watts of high quality clean power for near field listening with my computer, where I master audio, and I couldn't ask for a better combination. The amp is laid back, which is great since I don't like my music overly bright.
Recently, I decided I need deeper bass since I occasionally game on this machine and like to feel the rockets flying by me, so I built myself a sub using a Tang Band W8-740C driver and a 10" PR. I started integrating it with my Monitor 5's and found the ideal crossover point to be 50hz. 50hz for monitors!
I'm about twenty years late, but I'd just like to say, Thank you Polk!
