Hello, my question is, on the preouts on my yamaha 5760, am I looking for an amplifier or a preamplifier to hook up in there? Thanks

Amplifier.

Hook the pre-outs on your receiver to a separate amplifier. Then you would be using your receiver as a pre-amp.

hey phuz, thanks for the quick reply. Maybe you can help me out a bit, I have RTi8's, csi3, and rti'4s for the rears, and a 10' velodyne sub. What would you get for an amplifier in the $300 to $500 range? and this is a used price. Thanks

It sounds like home theater might be your priority. If so, you can get a good 5 channel amp by adcom, rotel, B&K, NAD, or various other seperate component manufacturers in that price range. Ebay and Audiogon should have plenty to check out.

Oh, and welcome to the forum! :)

Here are some to check out.

http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?sofocus=bs&sbrftog=1&catref=C5&sacur=0&sorefinesearch=1&from=R10&_trksid=m37&sacqyop=ge&saaff=afdefault&fcl=3&frpp=50&nojspr=y&saslop=1&fss=0&satitle=%285+channel%2C+7+channel%29&sacat=14970%26catref%3DC6&sargn=-1%26saslc%3D2&sadis=200&fpos=77373&sabfmts=1&saobfmts=insif&ftrt=1&ftrv=1&saprclo=&saprchi=&fsop=1%26fsoo%3D1&coaction=compare&copagenum=1&coentrypage=search&fgtp=

Also Carver, Outlaw, Marantz, and Parasound would be good. Some may be outside of your price range. Patience and consistent looking will yield good results in the long run. Check local hi-fi and pawn shops and the Club Polk forums for good used/demo/consignment gear.

That Nakamichi PA-1 amp is nice if you could get cheap enough.
