As for the wiring, it will run on the exterior. I do not know the exact location for the surrounds yet so I did not want to run the wires. Plus, it will make it easier to up grade the wire or upgrade to 6.1+ at a later date without having it all in-wall.

Ron, it looks so small! What are the measurements? And how are you going to do the AC unit, right behind the TV?

Running the wires outside is a great idea. You can always box them in for easy access without having to see them.

I wanna build a new theater. :(

It looks small from the outside, but once inside it is quite big. It is 9' wide by 16' long with a variable ceiling height of 7' to 8' for the seating area. The Green Room is only 10' x 12'. I loose a foot in width, but gain 4' in length, totally worth the trade off as the front row of the Green Room was at 5.5' from the 46" screen, a bit too close.

The AC unit will be housed in it's own box, insulated for sound with a sloped roof so the actual opening will be quite small. It will also have a vent cover to shoot the air to the sides and not directly at people. I just have to figure out a way to turn it on and off easily. The location is great right now. I can place a catch pan under it for condensation dripage and also crack the garage door for fresh air as the back of the unit will be right up against the door.

I thought about placing it high over the seating but the noise level would be much higher.

The TV will still be completely isolated and on it's own stand from the A/C unit.

I don't know if it's too late in the process, but you might want to consider some product from ASC. The wall damping stuff can easily and quickly bring sheetrock up to plaster and lath standards for bass response.

When a site does not list a price for their product (at least I did not see it), it's too expensive to even bother.

I'm all for good sound, but two-layers of drywall on the interior is said to get excellent results. I'll try that first. Thanks for the link though.

What are you going to do for security? Yours would be a nice system for someone to get for free.

Already have the alarm system, just need to add another station for the HT room. Plus, I will be installing a dead bolt. By the time I have it locked down, it will be harder to get into it then into my house. Also, my wife is a stay at home mom, so she does not work.

Last night I ran some audio tests. Brought in the RT55's and Sonosub mainly to test the bass and check for possible vibration noises before I finish off the walls. Besides the fact that the room is nothing more than a sheetrock shell, bass response was very good and not a single noise, squeak or rattle. All is good and this weekend I'll tear apart the old Green Room and start dressing up the new room.

ron have you tryed watching movies withthe tv up so high? in my front row you lose a bit of the top top 2 inches but in the back row it looks great but the sound is the best in the front row 1 thing the center is realey defined way up there but it looks great i still have to make stands for my 800i

My daughter and I sat down to watch a little Lord of the Rings, we sat on the deck for the rear seating and the view was great so a couch or futon will be no problem what so ever.
