LSi15s Carpet spikes on Hardwood floors

Hey guys,

I'm moving into a house with hardwood floors and I'm not sure what is the best way to couple the speakers to the floor. Heres what I could come up with, please comment:

1. Continue using the polk carpet spikes, but also buy eight brass isolation pads to protect the wood floor from the spikes.

2. Continue using the polk carpet spikes and buy two slate/granite bases.

3. Remove the carpet spikes and use the rubber feet that came with the lsi15s. I would use washers to adjust the tilt back.

If I go with option 3 will the speakers have enough isolation from the floor? The reason I ask is because theres a crawl space under the floors. Will that cause any unwanted resonances?

Only you will know what it sounds like on that floor. You have the rubber feet so throw them on. Good luck.

Don't you just slip the rubber feet over the spikes and turn the spikes to level things out? Maybe the newer Lsi15s are different, I don't know. I have the older ones.

option 2 is what they do out here in Japan allot. Looks pretty classy with the right color, however I dont know the benefits of it.

De-couple, use brass footers. You will find less bass energy transferred to the floor, and the result should be cleaner, more articulate bass with better attack and fast(er) decay.

In my experience, yes. The sub floor sounds as if it is a radiator. This can get quite annoying. Some are worse than others depending on build quality, supports, insulation and thickness of flooring.

Thanks russ I said that completely backwards. I want to de-couple the speakers to the floor. On a sidenote, I'm soo excited to get into my own place. Now I can pump up the jams:D Just wait, I'll be asking for a bigger amp in the next few months.:D

you will need something like buckshot or sand to deter the resonance on those hardwood floors.

mox the lsi15s are towers. They have no stands. I could fill my power ports with sand, but then I'd own a $100 subwoofer from ebay...

Cool idea but way too big for my room. Those suckers are 2 feet long!
