Lsi 9 for sides [Archive]

If I am going with lsi25,lsic,lsifx, would the lsi9 make sense as surround sides??

*Before you say it, I realize about the 4ohm power.

Go with the LSi7, or another set of FX.

Why is this over kill???? Are you sayiing it would be kind of like adding another set of 25's for sides as in over kill.... or to put it simply, would be a waste of speaker???

No.
The best rears for any Lsi system is the Lsi7's and Lsifx. They work perfectly together. The 9's are better suited for mains or for a 2 channel system.

I am thinking of going with LSi7s for my rears as opposed to the FX because I like to play 5-channel stereo music and I am assuming the LSi7 is better suited for music compared to the FX.

The FX can still hold their own with music in the rears. Just have to change the bipole/dipole switch. The LSi9 would be a huge waste of speaker in the rears, FX or 7s all the way as others have suggested also. If youre running subs, you can save some coin and even go 15s instead of the 25s up front.

We're among the wasteful, we've got 15's up front, FX's on the Sides and 9's in the back. We purchased the 9's first, and were considering doing 9's front & back and we didn't get the others in time to return the 9's. They are overkill in the rear agreed, but we like the punch they have, certainly more punch than the 7's (most noticeable while listening to SACD's in 5 channel). If we ever put a 2 channel setup together we can steal the 9's from the back of the HT and replace them with 7's or something, but we really like the 9's as well, and with the 15's and the Carver we've got a 2 channel setup which we're quite fond of (we know it's along way from a true 2-channel rig but it's getting it done quite nicely right now for us).

If your doing 7.1 ch stereo it is great but for movie watching not much coming out of rear and low music out of sides.

+1000 - exactly right, for 7.1 or 'All Channels' it's great, overkill for most anything else, not to mention the majority of our music listening is 2 channel anyway...

You've got one kick butt system G2!

As long as you have the space, the power required to run an all LSI system (and you do!!!) to thier full potential, oh yeah & the money for it, GO FOR IT!!!

I really don't understand this concept of overkill. It's somehow wrong or wasteful to get more than you need possibly for the life of your system, but perfectly all right to spend thousands & thousands of dollars building & rebuilding & rebuilding & rebuilding system after system chasing after the ever illusive PERFECT sound.

Asking, Welcome to CP! If you have the means, space, & money for the system you want, GO FOR IT!
