Decibel rating and it depends on the speaker's characteristic's and efficiency.

It's not better either way it just is what it is. It does let you know that the lower the efficiency the more your amp will have to work for a given volume level.

The higher the DB the less the amp has to work to put out more.

I am not sure he means speaker sensitivity/effeciency.

Are you referring to the rating you see that says -3db? If so the lower the Hz the better and the higher the Khz the better. This number defines where the speaker rolls off as far as frequencies.

If you do mean speaker sensitivity you will see a rating something like 89db 1khz @ 1m, in this case the higher numbers means the speaker will play louder with a given amount of power than a speaker with a lower rating.

The sensitivity rating has nothing to do with the quality of the sound the speaker will put out. Just how much power you will need to drive it.

if db unit of signal to noise ratio . better db rating is good.
It is applicable to all equippmant, amp, cd player, dvd player,
tuner ete.,
