Very good deal (in the US anyway) . I picked up one 2 days ago in Oz ($244 AUD with King Kong included) and also have mine hooked up the same way (only to 1080i though).

I was reading somewhere in these forums (searched but couldn't find it) that the 360 HD-DVD will upscale normal DVDs through this connection type only (not component)? Where do you go in the settings to do this (if it does happen)?

I watched a normal DVD after a HD-DVD and although I expect the quality not to be the same, it didn't appear any different than when played on my Yamaha DVD-S2500  . Any hints, tips and / or clarification would be great.

Thanks in advance :p .

Hi engtaz,

Thanks for the reply.

I have a Fujitsu 50' Plasma (nearly 2 years old now) that only goes to 1080i (there was no 1080p model available at the time). If I select 1920 x 1080, the display goes dark, so if my memory serves me correctly, I have it set at 1368 x 768.

Hope this helps.

DVD's are already 480p, so there is no upconversion at all if that is true.

My only beef with the 360 for HD DVD playing would be the fan noise - unless they have improved it greatly. My old 360 sounded like a 747 landing in my HT.

You need to turn the volume up and pray there's no quiet parts in the movie. :D

5 FREE HD DVD: http://ak.buy.com/buy_assets/retail/pdfs/07Q3/0801-0930jw_5hddvd_microsoft.pdf

depending on how unethical you feel about it, existing customers can purchase the drive, copy the receipt and take the drive back and cut out upc from your old box and viola?

I picked up the HD DVD drive and It's very nice . It works as well as any other
player I have used. It's picture quality is good but I don't have an Elite 360 yet. I'm looking forward to using HDMI with it. It is a bit noisy when nothing is going on during movie playback. Not horrible but if you listen for it itcould be distracting. For the money, it's exceptable.
