Well I found some Straight Wire Star Quad cables on the cheap. $15 shipped! I am getting these because so many newbies ask about wires. This just may be the ticket into good wires for the non believer, or the guy who is open minded enough to try them out. The insulation is foamed for low dielectric loss. I have my own cables that I make, but for $15 terminated I think you can't go wrong with these. The only question about the wires is the termination quality. I don't believe you need to spend a ton to get good wires. They use a wire that is just like the Canary S4. I have heard the EncoreII's that Venom was nice enough to bring over, and let me audition. Those were about the best wires I have heard so far. I would like to try them against my solid silver core Teflon insulated IC's one day.

I know they are only level ones, but seem to have the wire of the level twos.

Edit: $15 each cable.

I tried Straightwires' Chorus some years ago, I wasn't impressed.

The corous is a totally different wire. I heard the star quad wires, and they sound very nice:) About the same level as PBJ's but different... smoother.

I would be glad to build silver cables for select fellow Polkies. This invitation is extended ONLY to Polk members. No Newbies! Sorry to leave you guys out ,but to many people come and go without contributing. Also it take a LOT of time to braid these things right. If anyone would like to check them out please PM me for details. As one fellow Polkie told me about a deal "does this mean shut up?" answer "with all due respect YES". Also please do not post anything if you have received cables from me without letting me know.

Thanks Ben

They have speaker wires there that cost more than every car I have owned except one!

Well I have received my Straight Wire IC today. It uses the star quad configuration, and the RCA's are definitely HQ. I have some Nuetrik's that I have been using, and the grip is not solid at all. These have a split center pin, and very solid Outer jacket. I will order a second one now that I have seen the build quality. Impressions will be coming soon. So far build quality is spot on!

OK I did some minor dissection, and have found with the help of another Polkie the same design configuration is the same as the EncoreII's. For $27 a pair SHIPPED. 3 days to my door in factory packing:D

PBJ's vs brand new(not burnt in) cheap "Straightwire Musicable II" I have one on the left channel, and one on the right. Played some mono vocals with acoustic guitar. Straight wires are slightly cleaner, but still had the sparkling detail of the PBJ's. The RCA's are rock solid. they fit extremely well. I have a second one on the way. For $27 a pair they can't be beat as an entry level cable. I will do some comparisons to my silver wires in a week. My thought s are these would be Ideal between source, and Pre(like SACD). I have single connectors that cost more than a pair of these!

They are shielded for easy wiring in a bad environment.

OK I did some more testing. The Straight wires don't compare. I wasted $30 on this experiment. I may use them temporarily one my SACD outs for rears till I build more Silvers. The Straight wires were pretty nice for vocals, and then I put on some Beastie Boys for some bass. Straights lost out hands down to PBJ's. I ordered more RCA's for my silvers. I have found that is the way to go.

You do realize, that because of you I couldn't stop humming "Sabotage" for hours.
thanks a lot man!

B Boys always get me still. My music taste have changed, but B Boys still get some usage on my player!

How would this work for comparison? I assume the two speakers are in different locations, and therfore have slighty different room response, reflections, etc. Even playing a mono source, I would expect them to sound slightly different even when using the same interconnect.

Yes I totally agree. The differences weren't subtle. Way to obviously different tone. Not even worth doing a listen with different material etc.

Might be worth switching the cables between the two sides though. That way you could see if the difference followed the cable, or if it was just room placement.
