i have a pair of monitor 5's that sound great but dont look so good. nothing horrible but years of use and moving around and stuff. i dont know anything about woodworking so dont know how much work can be done to them to bring them back, so thats why i was thinking about parting them out..
thoughts?

pics? What are you looking for them? Is the cabnets broken or just scratched and are the drivers and tweeters OK?

pics in a day or two...cabinets are just scratched up, with maybe a gouge or two but nothing broken, all drivers just fine, was using them as rear surrounds to my monitor 10's till i went all "british" with kef and castle speakers, so the polks just sit and i dont want them to go to the goodwill. dont know what i want for them, obviously it would be cheaper just to ship the drivers and such..like i recently did on a set of epi 100's...but local pickup is cool too...

Which Model 5's do you have?

umm, serial number just says "5", does it depend upon the tweeter?

Hi,
Not to highjack your thread but I have a single monitor 5 and I live in seattle. So if someone wanted a center or spare tweeter for your pair. I have posted it before but no one needed a peerless tweeter. Great sounding speakers, but I dont need them. Good luck. :)

Personally anytime you can sell them complete w/o parting them out it's best. Since they are just lowly Monitors :D (not SDA's) no problem parting them out if someone is in need of parts.
Since they are not fused and have a poly switch they are later production 5b's. The Monitor 5 series II have the black/goldish Sl2500 tweeter.

They are really not that bad. I have seen alot worse. Try to sell them together. I bet you could get pretty good money, for the pair.

Hi Bikerboy,
I'd be interested in one peerless tweeter! I live in South Australia and would be glad to pay postage and a reasonable price for the tweeter.
Cheers,
Mark

shipping would be a killer as they weigh in at a total of 47lbs, plus, probably a charge for the oversize box unless i box seperately which means a higher shipping cost also..

Shipping won't be as bad as you think. I shipped a 89lb amp in a three foot square box last month, for $23, FedEx ground from MI to NY.

William, MI to NY fedex can drive your box with your amp. They cannot drive to South Australia.
I did a quick quote on fedex.com from seattle washington to Adelaide South Australia with a box of 20" x 20" x 20" @ 47 lbs and it came out to $404.91

Who said anything about shipping the speakers to Australia? Gretsch was just asking about a tweeter from Bikerboy. Nothing to do with the original poster (starkiller).
Try to follow the discussion.:D
BTW, we ship to Australia all the time, that tweeter can probably be shipped for $40 or so, FedEx International economy.

list them on your local craigslist for $75. They'll be gone by the end of the day.
