I will be running a pair of carver silver 9t monoblocks with my SRS 1.2's. Anyone know if these are common ground AMPS?

What happens when you hook up SRS 1.2's to an amp that is not common ground? Is damage instaneous or does it occur over time? What do you hear or see? Popping sounds, fire?

Thx

Mono blocks amps, by their very nature, are not common ground and running them with SDA's will result in bad things. However, there are solutions and this forum is full of that info making the search function your friend.

I think I found an old post that said monoblocks will not work with the older SRSs with blade/balde interconnects.

If the 1.2s are pin/blade you should be able to strap the negative terminals of the amps together and be OK.

Can someone confirm this?

In all instances you need to talk to the manufacturer of said amplifiers to see if they can be strapped for common ground operation. It really has nothing to do with which series SDA's you have (as far as strapping for common ground operation). Yes, newer SDA's had the capabilities to run non-common ground amps with a special innerconnect. Older SDA's DO NOT have that capability. If you don't have the AI-1 innerconnect or the ablitly to make one you need to make sure the amps (s) in question run common ground, or can be strapped to run in common ground.

Also be aware that since the newest SDA is still some 15 years old that there are now more common stereo amps that are not common ground and will cause the same issue's as mono blocks. Adcom 5500, 5800, 5802 and the the big Aragon amps come to mind off the top of my head.

Get your search on as this has been talked about hundereds and hundreds of times in the past 6 years.

P.S. This is a general response but should answer your question. There are members who run those mono's with SDA's maybe they will chime in, if not call Ken at Polk or contact soemone whjo knows about Carver products
