Hello,

First I want to make sure i'm an absolutely newbie to hifi/speakers etc. :)
I am looking for new speakers (and an amp) and I saw someone one the internet who was selling a pair RTA11t's for 100€.
I began to search for "polkaudio", never heard of it :-) and so i got on this site.
Now i want too know if it's a good idea to buy a pair of those vintage speakers when I dont know anything about speakers.
After some reading here on the forum I noticed everybody is talking about "replacing tweeters". Is it always necessary to replace them? because i doubt i know how to do it :).

Here are the pictures of the rta11t's that guy is selling:

I noticed that the tweeter looks different than those on the pictures on this site; http://www.polksda.com/rta11t.shtml
strange or not?

What do you guys think? should I buy it or not (after listening offcourse)
Where do I have to look at when I go to his house to check the speakers? some tips?

Thanks in advance !!

The tweet in the pic is a non-POLK tweeter and I doubt very much if it sounds any good. Makes one wonder what other abuse/changes have been made to the original speaker. If you can get these for less $100 and nothing else has been altered or is broken it might be worth it.

You can get replacement tweeters for aout $100 a pair direct from Polk. My biggest concern is the tweeter opening may have been damaged enough to not allow you to replace with orginal Polk tweeters. If that's the case pass on them as you'd have to do somew woodworking to make the original tweeter opening correct.
