View Full Version : Avel Lindberg transformer for AI-1 interconnect

I need some help building an AI-1 interconnect.

Has anyone here used the Avel Lindberg transformers mentioned in the SDA Compendium, and if so, which model? Are there any differences between the two?

Has anyone had Avel make them a custom one?

I recently got hold of a pair of 1.2TLs that I really want to use with my Carver Silver 9ts. Strapping the negative terminals results in a horrible hum so I am afraid to even hook up a source at this time.

Thanks for any help,

Steve

Thank you F1.

That's a lot of info. The Avel seems to be the way to go.

Another question: can the old cable be cut and the trasformer be wired in?

The Compendium 2nd ed. schematics show the blade going to ground but the AI-1 building instructions on pages 65 and 66 say to use a seperate piece of cable from the transformer to the negative speaker terminal. Seems messy if one could use the pin-blade conncetor to get the job done.

The standard pin/blade cable does not have a wire running to the blades of each connector. If it did, it would be a simple matter to splice into the blade's wire and use that for connectivity to the negative speaker terminal. Since the back ends of the blades are fully encapsulated in hard plastic, you would have to drill through the connector ends to access them.

Thank you for your reply.

So the stock interconnect has two wires inside with only one hooked up to the pins and the other just sitting there?

Weird.

No. Both of the wires are connected to the pins.
