So I just bought a HD-DVD player, I have the sound hooked up with the 5.1 analogs, but I noticed when listening to a music cd that sound just comes out of my two fronts and nothing from the sub, I havent tried a regular dvd yet but am wondering if it will play through all the speakers or just the two fronts, and if sound only comes from the fronts is there a way to get sound from all of the speakers. by the way the player is the toshiba hd-a1. any and all help is appreciated.
thanks

not familiar with that model player, but have you gone through all the on-screen set-up menu's?

music CD's are only recorded in 2 channels.. left and right. so that's all you're gonna hear. left and right fronts. unless you set your receiver to play in 5ch or 7ch stereo.. or pro logicIIx

play a DVD and see what happens.. if then you only get fronts. then check settings in your recevier and the HD player.

I thought that I had tried that last night but it was kinda late so I might have missed something. I thought that since it was in 6 channel direct in I couldnt adjust between prologic or 5 channel or anything.

Can you change speaker settings in the HDA1 setup menu? Set the speakers to small and sub to on or LFE+main if it's available.

yeah I set all the speakers to small and sub to on, but I still don't get any bass when I'm listening to cd's. Could/should I have both optical and 5.1 analogs hooked up but into 2 different inputs. CD and 6 channel direct or is that not a good Idea?

That's how it should be setup if you want multi channel from a 2 channel source.

so then I would use the 5.1 analogs for hd dvd's and the input would be 6 channel direct. for cd's I would use fiber optic and have it set to my cd input on my receiver? If thats is correct would I then receive bass from my sub?

Right. 6 channel direct is just as the name implies, DIRECT, no processing, no crossover settings, etc. With the CD input you will be able to set the crossover and sub output.
