A friend at work showed me a copy of the August 23, 2007 issue of Machine Design magazine and there is an article about Eminent Technology (makers of the $3000 ET2 air bearing tone arm) about a rotary woofer they developed. It's not a lengthy article but has some interesting speaker theory in it, especially about planar speakers. The rotary woofer sounds interesting and I'd love to hear one. It looks like a small wind turbine. The article said that their tests showed it was capable of producing sounds as low as 1 Hz. Yes, ONE Hertz! If you can find this magazine it's an interesting read.:)

I posted a thread about one of these a while back and as far as I know, nobody here at CP has the thing and somebody chimed in as to it costing something over 20K to have installed.

I'm with you, though. I want to hear it.

The article said that the model TRW-17 "can produce sounds below 1 Hz" and the MSRP is $12,900.

I didn't see your thread but i'll look for it. Since the rag was only a couple weeks old I thought it may have been new news.

It's actually kinda ugly. It looks like a pedestal mounted washing machine motor with an aircraft prop nose coned automobile type radiator fan attached to it.

The actual cost is close to 13K, but with professional installation which I believe was mandatory, plus room analysis brought the total cost to over 20K. From the links provided on the other thread, you don't even see the unit. It's mounted in the attic, or at least above the listening room.

I still want to hear it.
