Difference Between DB6500 & DB6501??

Whats the real difference between the two speakers? On paper they look very similar but is there a sound difference between the two?


I was going to run the MMC6500's but cannot get them to fit in the allowed space so looking for something different I have the Db6500 But im looking for a little more bass out of my system until i decide if i want to add subs or not! What do you guys think? No local shops have components on display to listen to so this will have to be from customer reviews and word of mouth.

Going with the Momo's Mac commented on would be my choice. You will have a smaller midrange driver, but overall a better one. The tweeter is another reason to jump on the Momo.

No componet will give you the kind of bass that a sub can provide. Some help out more than others and can dip into the lower frequencies, but these midrange drivers are usually found on more expensive setups.

hmmm never really thought about going to a 5.25 didn't really want to down size from the factory offering. Does anyone make a speaker spacers to add more bottom depth so i can run the 6.5s?

Pretty much any stereo shop will have spacers you can buy. Cheapest way is to run down to Home Depot and grab some plywood (1", 3/4" or whatever thickness you need) and cut out your own spacers.

The ones at the shop will be about $20. You could buy a sheet of plywood or MDF for about $5.

That being said - the MMC5250 is a much better speaker and will sound better than a DB6500. Something to think about.

the 6501's are the shallow mount ones. the 6500's are NOT shallow mount. the regular ones do sound more bass heavy, my gf has both sets in her car atm.

Thanks. It looks as if i need .100 inch of depth in the fronts for the Momo's and .3ths of depth in the rear doors. I think i can manage to find that room somewhere so im going to go with the momos as i really don't want to have to add subs because the 3rd row seating limits the cargo space enough let alone a set of 12'' woofers.

It looks like you have enough room to get the MMC6500's in the front door. Based on the information I have found. What seems to be the problem? The MMC6500's are only 1/16th on an inch deeper than the 5250's. I know overall they are a very large driver but it still looks lije their is room at least in the front doors.

who says u need 2 12" woofers, throw 1, 2, or even 3 of these (http://www.polkaudio.com/caraudio/products/mm2084/) little guys in there and it will be hard hitting clean bass.

If space is an issue you could always consider mounting a sub under your rear seats. If you're not up for custom fabrication on the box check and see if Q-logic makes an enclosure for your vehicle.

The db6500 and db6501 both have the same mounting depth according to the specs on polkaudio.com. The db651s is a shallow mount- the S being the 'shallow' designation.

Actually, the "S" in 651s stands for slim, not shallow. The mids are the same depth, but the tweeter on the 651s doesn't swivel so it buys you space in a car where the door panel doesn't leave room for tweeter protrusion.

The db6501 replaces the db6500 and db6750. You get an oversized mid that can be used with smaller mounting holes when using the supplied spacer ring. You can tell them apart at a glance because the surround on the 6501/ 651 is bigger. The 651s is like our 650 was. But less tweeter height.
