When biamping a set of splits (sr6500's) is there a need/benefit to use crossovers before amplifying? ie

HU(cd8455)---AMP (c400.4)------XO (sr6500's)-------------Speaker(sr6500's)
ch1/2 (HPF)---ch1/2(no filters)---Tweeter inputs/outputs----tweeters
ch3/4 (LPF)---ch2/3(no filters)----Woofer inputs/outputs-----Woofers

I assume the norm is to just run a full signal from the deck's 1/2/3/4 channels, into separate amp channels and let the SR's XO's do their work (which i understand are a remarkable piece of work).

If youre wanting to be able to tune your system with the greatest flexibility then youd need an active crossover like something from Audiocontrol. This would allow you to fine tune and play with the various frequencies per driver.

However, if youre wanting a simple "plug and play" installation then use the passive crossovers that came with the SR's.

Neither is necessarily "better" as its all relative as to what youre wanting out of your system and whats practical for you.
