New quote from Californication: "I'm just an analog guy in a digital world".
I beginning to think that vinyl is making a serious comeback.
My favorite LP's are from YES. Not so much for the music... but, for the unusual art on the LP covers. It used to be that the design of the album cover was an important feature of the purchase. I miss that.

One of the benchmark live recordings of all time. Cannot vouch for the SACD or any re-release on vinyl, but the original is superb.
BTW, I forgot Waiting for Columbus (the original pressing is very good, the MoFi is outstanding)

Okay....ready?
Now, these are NOT in order but 10 you should have:
1. Dire Straits Brothers in Arms - 180gm reissue
2. Steely Dan Aja/Gaucho - Aja, get the MFSL release
3. Eva Cassidy - Songbird
4. Jim Hall - Concierto
6. Bartok Concerto for Orchestra - George Solti - London
7. Alan Parsons - IRobot
8. DiMeola, DeLucia, McLaughlin - Friday Night in San Francisco
9. Santana - Abraxas
10. Dvorak: Concerto for Cell - Janos Starker - Merc Living Presence
11. Rachmaninov piano concerto #3 - Byron Janis - Merc Living Presence
12. Alison Krauss/Union Station- either of thier MFSL releases.
EDIT: Damn, I for got Sinatra at the Sands. Get that instead of the Alan Parsons. You gotta have some Sinatra in your library.
Ignore any spelling mistakes....I'm doing this from memory off the cuff. So there is 12, sue me.

Great recording of mediocre material. I've got the mono and stereo versions....I actually like the mono better. Harry just doesn't do it for me, really.
For a live recording, Sinatra at the Sands is the only way to go.
Also, Also Sprach Zarathurstra (sp) is a cool one to have, I actually prefer the version by Zubin Mehta on the London/Decca label. If you go with the Reiner/RCA go with the 1954(?) version, I believe that it's been redone and readily available. I think it's LSC-1806.

BDTOnly twelve? I have 20 or so in my top ten fav's, but seems we're talking performance and SQ here, so many have to fall by the wayside, e.g., Ziggy.
If you're axing I Robot, I'll take it. Even the original vinyl's SQ is jaw-droppingly gorgeous...
The Alan Parsons Project - I Robot (http://wm04.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:f9fqxqe5ldte)
When it comes to being fincky about SQ, Parsons "... may not be in a class by himself, but it does not take long to call the role."
And off the top of my head, which is anything but orderly....
Robbie Robertson - Storyville (http://wm04.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:w9fyxqt5ldse)
Dark... Smokey... Seductive...
Heifitz/ Reiner & CSO - Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto- 1957
Yes, 1957... and it still stands up to nearly all of the more recent recordings... and, well, it's Heifitz...
The Moody Blues - Days of Future Passed (http://wm04.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:09fyxqw5ldke)
There are not that many truly groundbreaking, rock recordings... this is one of them.
Elvis Costello - My Aim is True (http://wm04.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:kvfoxzu5ldke)
Crisp... detailed... riveting
Thomas Dolby - The Golden Age of Wireless (http://wm04.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:difyxqt5ld6e)
Quirky material melticulously recorded...
"Good heavens, Mrs. Moto.... You're beautiful!"
Charles Dutiot & Montreal SO - Berlioz: Symphonie fantastique for orchestra (http://wm04.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=44:832674)
One of the most, if the not the most, sumptuous recordings I have heard.
The Who - Who's Next (http://wm04.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:3pfwxql5ldfe)
Mentioned in an earlier post. One of a couple on this list that are also on my "Desert Island" list. Great sounding LP that spawned hit single after hit single.
The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Axis: Bold as Love (http://wm04.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&token=&sql=10:3ifqxq85ldje)
Sadly much of Jimi's catalog is not well recorded... not the case here.
Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Emerson, Lake & Palmer (http://wm04.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:diftxqt5ldde)
This may be the only LP of which I have three copies... all from the original BMG LP mail order service. One has a flaw on side one; one a flaw on side two; the third was just right. Very well recorded. The deep synth at the end of "Lucky Man" will test your cartridge/ tone arm combo...
Ricki Lee Jones - Ricki Lee Jones (http://wm11.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:a9fixq95ldae)
The finger snaps of "Chuck E.'s in Love" alone are enough to put this release on the list.
And, if I can be permitted a CD...
The Glenn Miller Orchestra (sort of...) - In the Digital Mood (http://wm04.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:hxfixqwgldfe) - GRP
Yup, big band made my list. Dave Gruisin came up with the idea and musicians lined up to participate. Give it a listen, it just might make your list...

Speaking of Mercury poinsoning, I have a ton of old Mercury recording that are REAL albums. They don't even have the names of the songs on the record labels, they are hand written in the ledger of the opening side of the "album." This came from the "phono album" era.
BTW Ric, my favorite cut of Jazz at the Pawnshop is "Lady Be Good." It has everything in it. My second and third are "Limehouse Blues" and "High Life."

My guess would be anyone reading the thread (other than you, of course). This is an exploration of musical tastes. A declaration, if you will, of what vinyl has a semi-permanent home off the shelf of most collectors, choosing instead to have it at their finger tips, ready to play when the mood strikes.
