My dog, Buddy, was almost 16 and has kind of been having a harder time getting around lately. We thought we were going to have to put him down about a month ago but he got better and had a nice 3 weeks with us before some thing happened to him yesterday afternoon, he laid down and did not have the strength to get back up, so we made the decision last night to put our good Buddy down.
Bud will be missed by my wife, myself, our two children, and his best buddy Lucy. He had a long and happy life. RIP Bud.
Bud is the little guy in the picture.

Sorry to hear that, we put our 16yr old shepard mx down for the same reasons a couple months ago. He just got to the point where he couldn't get up anymore.

Sorry to hear Paul. I had to put my dog Angel (a dalmatian) down several years ago, it's not an easy thing. On top of that I gave away our other dal, Gumball, a couple of months ago.

So sorry for what you had to do; I've been there many times. I know it's hard right now and it does get easier but takes time. Sixteen years is a long time and you obviusly took very good care of him. Just remember all the unconditional love he gave you. I wish you and your family all the best.

It looks to me like Buddy was one spoiled rotten doggy.
.......and that's a good thing. :)
16 years is a long run, he probably appreciates the decision you made.

Man, I know that decision has to be a tough one to make. But I'm sure it was the right one, too.
Sorry to hear about your loss. Dogs definitely become a member of the family.

It's the right decision. No more suffering. 16 years is pretty good, I'm glad you got those extra 3 weeks with him.

We recently put down the Westie that I grew up with at the age of 17....It was so hard man.....We were all worried that we would come home to her in the entry, passed on, waiting for us to arrive. The lab we have looked for her for weeks.....The lab was becoming increasingly protective of her as well, she would bare teeth at anyone besides myself or my parents that got close to her in the last couple of weeks....It was rough, but the right choice at the end of the day....

My other dog Lucy is looking for Bud when she goes outside and when she heres the car pull in she runs to the door thinking that he must be home. Our family will miss him but I know it was the right thing to do. Thank you all for the kind words. Last night I showed this thread to my wife and I think the very kind responses made her feel a little better. Thanks again.
