Audio differences between A/B and G & H Class amps

I would like to know the audible differences by hear between A/B class amps and G or H class amps. I have hear people down g & H class amps (rail amps) so I would like to know what is that people don't like. I think Outlaw,Carver, and others are in the G or H category.

Not real sure but i think everyone has a preference for a sound, some prefer amps that are brighter some darker some that prefer the solid sate amps over amp because of the extra bass slam or some like the warmer sound of a tube amp. Carver and Mcintosh probablly came the closest to a tube like sound with an solid state amp/amps.

Right now I have a class A amp running and it has very low distortion with tons of power very deep bass with no noticeable sag.

But I really liked the warmer tube like sound the carver had and my next goal is to purchase an tube pre perhaps in the next few weeks. I am trying to achieve the best that all 3 worlds offer. A tube pre for a warmer sound, the solid state bass slam, coupled with the incredibile detail and clarity of a nice class A amp.


There are pros and cons for all them I guess. listen to as many as you can and choose which is right for you.

It all depends, there are good and bad examples of class a and a/b amps. Far fewer examples of good sounding digital amps, but they do exist.

Most amps in the marketplace are A/B designs. Never heard and Outlaw, so can't comment. Not a Carver fan, I find them too bright and shy on bass, but okay dynamically. Not a Krell fan, too sterile...sound like an 80s Technics receiver with tight bass. Boss has an Edge, which I really like. The Bryston 2BSST is killer, very smooth, open, just "right", but lacking the dynamics of their bigger amps. I like the bigger ones too, and am seriously considering a 4BSST next year. The Parasound Halo stuff is really good, and the older Classic stuff is very good for the $$. Crowns can shave your ears clean off in the highs, but make great bass.

Just a few examples, all IMHO, of course.
