So I decided I want to put a hardwire charger for my TomTom in my car. Question is, I found this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/DIRECT-HARDWIRE-CABLE-TOMTOM-ONE-XL-POWER-CHARGER-TOM_W0QQitemZ110174306445QQihZ001QQcategoryZ73350Q QrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem

But that is $31 for a hardwrie mini usb 5vdc cable and I feel like I could do the same thing for a 1/5th of that price. Any have any idea the easiest way to do this? Buy a replacement cigarette adapter and cut the plug off or just suck it up and spend $31 on a cable.....

If you can find out what wire is negative and positive, youd just hook that up. The only thing that worries me is the converter thing. If it knocks it down to 6V or something, youd fry your piece.

Yea, this is entirely more complicated than it should be.

Run the wires behind the dash and right into unit after I figure out how I want it mounted. I have no intention of using the windshield mount, yuk.

hardwire a cig lighter behind the dash would work

or

Neither of which I want, both half assed ways to do it. I want a single wire with positive and negative on the end that I can wire directly into my fuse panel accessory slot using the correct amp fuse.

No extra cigarette lighters
No cigarette lighter adapters

Thanks though.

well since its 5volt source voltage for usb, you will need either a dc adapter or a step down tranformer inline or something like that. A cig lighter plug would hide behind the dash super easy

I would need something exactly like the wire I linked. I was just wondering if there was a cheaper place to buy it.

Got the new mount and disc in today, after I hardwire it into that console you won't see the ugly wire.

When I'm not using it the arm comes off and I can close the little door to cover everything up as well as the hardwire when it's not in use.
