I know PF07 just ended... but where is the 08 Polkfest going to take place or has that not been decided yet?
I know Michael_W is hosting one in January 08 in BC, Canada.
is there another one planned for a "warmer" time of the year anywhere else? ;)
any chance it would come out West next year? West coast travel is so much easier for me. :D

I missed the HQ PF a couple of years ago because it fell on my youngest's 18th birthday. Some things take priority over PF (not may though). I plan on being there in 08 and if it is back at Troy's in 09...well...wild horses and all that....

Al, if you wanted warmer you should of come to Georgia, it was downright hot, of course once all the Yanks left the big Rebels in the Sky turned off the heat and humidity. Of course I like Baltimore, SC, and Georgia sites for fests, although I am thinking aTejas event somewhere maybe 0-10.......anyway, it is great to see the Fest's planned out for a long time to come.

If you go to Manhattan, avoid the subway and take cabs to get around. Also try to avoid traveling during rush hour, then it's not bad at all. The rest of the 5 boroughs aren't bad as long as you don't drive during rush hour. There's much worse places to drive or travel through, such as the DC/VA area. Thank goodness for the beltway.

NYC? Hell no! Why? Major PITA, major $$$, no room to spread out. Lack of parking. (Yeah, I guess you could use mass transit) but there are much better locations. Other than maybe downtown SF or DC, I can't think of a worse location. No, I take that back, it is the worst location possible. Even worse then Yellowknife.

Hmm, I can understand that. However the amount of hi-fi/2 channel stores in NYC is just staggering. I cannot think of a better place to demo great gear and listen to wonderful music.
When I went down to NC, aside from Trey's system, there was like ONE other hi-fi place. In NYC there are more than 10. Easily. Meaning that there are lots of places to see wonderful gear.

I really don't care where or when the next polkfest is. I plan to finally make it to one and am already budgeting a plane ticket and hotel. The earlier you can let me know, the more I can save though - so pick the date and I am there. Ok the challenge is being tossed out to all Canadians to make it to Polk Fest 2008 in Baltimore. Think about it. If you save $20 per week (some of you cut down on the coffee, smokes, booze or whatever) for one year and equates to $1040. No one is saying stop, just cut down if that will help save money. That amount will get you to Baltimore, hotel and team up and rent a car. I will be doing my best to make it from Yellowknife and I have a lot more distance to travel than you. It’s more than $20/week for me. The gauntlet has been thrown down folks! :)

You cowgirls! Brooklyn is only the center of the universe. Best pizza & calzones, best hotdogs, best baseball team, and on and on and on. Plus, the streets are numbered sequentially, unlike Queens, where 153rd Place is next to 75th Ave, in between 9th Boulevard, and the last two numbers of your house address is the street you live closest to. The place was laid out by drunk Chinamen.

Shack, Most likely you were on a tight schedule?, It's hard to plan a trip and or business in the NYC area unless you really know NYC. The more time you have the better.
When I picked up my SRS 2's in Long Island I started in Jersey City, drove through NYC and went to Long Island and back. The total trip was 37 miles. It took around 8 hours.
The seller wanted me to pick them up around Noon. This was the problem. If he said 10pm, I would have left my house at 8:30pm and I'd be back home by 11pm.
It's just that's there so many people squeezed into such a small area that it's hard to do anything quickly.
But for me I live in NJ and I love NYC, Everytime I go on trips I can't wait to get back to work. NYC and me are forever!, Represent!!

Y'all can have your "city" (all 9,000,000 ± of you).
If I want to hang out with 100,000 plus people in a square block, I'll go to a UT football game. Pizza....I can get all the cornbread and beans, country fried steak, biscuits and gravy, country ham AND sweet iced tea to sustain me right here in ET.

There has always been a question as to whether spouses and/or significant others are welcome at Polkfest and whether or not there are other activites for them to participate in if the aren't hard core Polkies. The answer of course is yes they are welcome but they are on their own.
A new question now seems to be...If I bring my significant other does the host have a fenced in back yard and is there adequate grass for grazing or if not are there any farm feed stores nearby.

There is no passing in the left lane. They use it as the crusing lane. You can four lanes of traffic going in one direction and all four will have white Maryland license plates going neck and neck. When one finally gets past so that you can go around them, the jerk speeds up so that you can't pass them. . . then it starts all over again. Very agitating.

Trying to stay calm and not get all wound up......Tom, chill......10 Breaths.....calm down......it's OK. That said, I hear you Joe. Things like this is why I don't have a gun in the car. If I did, tire companies would hire me to increase business, 'cause I'd shoot every tire on the vehicles that did this. I have actually gone 95mph trying to pass this buttmunch that did the same thing, when he [while I couldn't pass him] was going 37-40 mph in a 65 w/ plenty of travel [10-12 car lengths, 20 car lengths at times] between him and the next car. OK, I lied. We topped 100mph when traffic started to separate a little bit more. Thank god I have a V8. As soon as I passed him, I saw a squirrel...hit the brakes hard, and proceeded to go 25 mph until he yielded. I then took off. He must have been a Maryland driver.
Mark, wear something special for me. I'll wear my diapers just for you big guy. :D Nope, I don't have road rage, just common sense rage.
I'd tell you all the story about what happened on 495 around DC one day, but some folks are still probably pissed off about being late for work. :p :D

Whoa there Bro!!! I used to do that crap all the time then I saw it happen around me while driving going north on I95 by Chester PA, the two goof balls that were playing their stupid game had to be going well over 100, nicked each others left and right side and the car in the right lane went air born and came to a dead stop up-side-down on a overpass abuttment. It was very ugly. Everyone in that car was killed and the asswipe that cause the problem to begin with tried to keep going but there was a cop at the top of the overpass watching the whole thing.
I felt for the people that were killed and all the people in snarled traffic a good five miles. As a matter of fact I95 northbound was backed up all the way from Chester to Wilmington DE.
That incident made me calm down quite a bit when trying to get from point a to b especially after seeing what actually was the result on the news.

For those in the NY area, a Southwest roundtrip ticket is 108.00 from ISP to BWI with 14 days advance booking. It’s not the cheapest option considering car & room, but it is an option. The 37 minute flight sure is nice though.

Any illinois polkies want to carpool or is it even worth not taking a plane? If we can split gas (and maybe driving and a hotel) we should make good time and minimize the cost. I have a big car so I can easily take 2 or 3 passengers with me.

I would love to get into that. My GTi would be perfect and my mechanic has raced up there over the past 10 years and is even involved in setting up the events. Almost went last year but the entry fee, fuel, safety devices were a bit too expensive for one or two runs.
He has 2 full blown race cars both Rabbits and his 16V 4 banger consistently puts out close 200 hp at the wheels. By today's motors that sounds unimpressive but he's not running a turbo or supercharger, etc. All motor and all hand built. Standard Rabbit in it's day was about 75 hp at the crank with the 16V GTi having ~135 hp at the crank. So 200 hp at the wheels is impressive w/bolt ons and machining.
Anyways I'd love to come up and hang out this summer, I always tell my mechanic I am and some how other things always come up, like golf :p.

Your GTI would be a sweet car for blackhawk. All you need is a helmet.
In November I bought a 2007 Infiniti G35 6MT Sport Sedan. (it's my tradeoff between really wanting a Vette, but needing to replace my 210,000 mile Altima with something I can drive in the winter...Yes, I'm driving a RWD car 40 miles to work through the snow.)
Sweet sound system in the car, by the way... even though it does say Bose it is the best sounding stock system I've ever heard. It's better sounding than some aftermarket car systems I've heard. 3-way in the front doors and a "subwoofer" on the back deck.

Yes I know and I believe you need a fire extinguisher. This wasn't an autocross this was a race with other cars and taking my daily driver up there just seemed like a bad idea. The Bilsteins, lowered suspension all summer tires would have been a good package until someone bumps you or you spin out into the wall and the air bags deploy and of course your insurance won't cover any damage. Wear and tear on the brakes, etc.
The autocross I could do because you are racing against the clock and there are no other drivers on the course. If you do get into it let me know as my mechanic is part of the group that runs many of the events up there. He'll know way ahead of time things coming up and be able to give you pointers on how to get things done, or if a particular event is worth spending money on, etc.
I figured to run in one race last year would have been just shy of $500 and I just didn't feel like that was a good fun/dollar ratio. A good helmet which is SCCA approved is about $200 the entry fee was about $150 and a couple tanks of 95 octane fuel at $6+ a gallon just was enough of an expense to turn me off.
I may autocross this year now that I have someone besides my mechanic whispering in my ear. My brother wanted to take his Miata up there too.
I am afraid (well I know) I'd become addicted to it :):)

You will absolutely become addicted to it. I've been to Blackhawk during one of the events when I had my Z28 and did one of the low speed autocross events at the rockford speedway in 2004. There are a lot of nice people (and some numb-nuts) in the MWSC club and the SCCR (sports car club of rockford)
You are absolutely right about the WTW racing. No way am I taking my street car into that. The autocross is a great opportunity to learn vehicle dynamics and car control and drive your car at 100mph+ legally.
I think the autocross entrance fee is $80ish. No need for racing fuel. 92 Octane will do just fine. Until you get good you don't have to worry about detroying tires and brakes too much either. Once you get the bug you'll buy a separate set of tires and rims for the track anyway and it'll be a piece of cake to change the brake pads when you have the tires off to put your street tires back on. :D
I'll send you the calender. You should come up one of the weekends that we go and enter that GTI.

You know, CP has NEVER been a uptopian, kumbyeyah place. It's just bigger now than it ever was. More contributing, foaming at the mouth audio nuts which has it's good and bad points. On a percentage basis, Total Harmonic Distortion is probably about the same as it ever was. In absolute terms, it seems higher because of volume. As the volume goes up, it's more labor intensive.

I'm definitely making this one whenever it is
For those thinking on flying in to BWI, I'm not too far out from the airport, so I could be available to pick ya up and get you to your hotel. Keep that in mind as the Fest activities get set and you plan your travel.
