Transformers - I got a headache with so much bass

i had to watch Transformers last night when I got home.. and about half or 3/4 of the way thru the movie.. i started to get a headache from all the bass... i'm not complaining, it's just an added perk to the movie sound track. which is awesome by the way. :D

My subwoofer hasn't gotten a workout like that in a while. ;)

There really is a lot of bass but other than being pretty LFE heavy and the sound design being unbelievably impressive I love the heavy usage of the surround channels.

I've had my Energy sub for 10+ years with no problem and I watched Transformers on Tuesday. I was playing with my system yesterday and I think it might be blown from that movie lol.

Just watched the trailer to the movie online, and my laptop speakers were distorting like crazy. I've never heard my laptop distort like that EVER!

I wonder what it will sound like at home with my 1000W, 15" Dayton Titanic MKIII sub!

I would love to hear a mini-review of that sub. I really thought about getting one before I purchased my SVS's.

I absolutely love the sub. It is a truly outstanding bang-for-the-buck value. I have compared it to units costing 2-3 times the price, such as the Definitive Technology SuperCube Reference, and the performance is similar if not slightly better. In fact, my DIY sub was more accurate than the DefTech - the DT was just boomy in comparison. I also found the Dayton Titanic to be more musical.

Just my opinion.

When it comes to movies....bass is like horsepower...you can never have too much. That is as long as the rest of the system being able to keep up cleanly and blended well...you dont want the blown 426 Hemi in a Yugo syndrome :D

I guess I am going to have to go out and buy the HD version of this movie...I have been buying nothing but Blu-Rays ( Blu-Ray to HD at about 70/30 for me right now ) lately , but my Toshiba is getting lonely and this one seems seems worth the price of admission.

Normal DVD, no. The HD-DVD should, though. Part of the HD spec requires a DTS track.

I'm also on a corner. The bedroom on that corner of the house is too small for a HT/2 ch. room. My neighbor to the right is a cool guy, he blasts music all day so he'll never complain. I just hope I don't disturb the people behind me with the 2 year old. Their house is a good 50' away though, with some bushes and a 6' fence in between.

So...

Tonight had a few friends over to watch TF -- chill out, whole nine yards

Really had it cranking -- had the volume cranked about 10db hotter than normal on the subs, added about 10db of synth ---

Had it rumbling in here, and the dynamics were through the roof...

Granted, can't quite reproduce what 5 speakers can --- but I sure came close!

And man it was BAKING in here...

TV, 3 amps, tube preamp, xbox, all that going and 4 people in my small space...

Lets just say even the floor was warm... incredibly hot -- just now, 2 hours later has cooled down to comfortably sit in here

But I've now seen Transformers around 10 times -- love it!

I don't know where you heard that the specs require a DTS track but I don't think I own an HD DVD with a DTS track, although I'm sure there are some out there, but what I mean is I don't think its required, but most HD DVD players will convert a DD+ or a TrueHD or what ever new format the disc has to DTS before sending it out via toslink or coax to your pre-amp or AVR, maybe thats what you mean.

I got the standard def version - no HD yet. Just thought i would tell everyone that the picture and sound are both great on the SD version as well. I am sure it is not up to HD standards, but for SD - its pretty damn nice.

BTW - the final autobot vs decepticons fight (prior to the megatron optimus fight) is definate demo material.

If you have the power, there is no better sub/deal for the money than a passive sub from SVS IMO. Email them and they can help you.

You're lucky if you only got a headache from the bass. They could've encoded the Brown Note in there, too, y'know? :-)

Alright! Another South Park fan. Actually, some of the bass in this movie was almost the equivilent to the brown note. My AL-III's had my insides wigglin.

You lost me there... what does South Park have to do with the brown note? The concept dates back (at least) to Tesla's time.
