I MIGHT consider selling my SRS 2's with new RDO Tweeters.
They are in Tampa.
I THINK I might have a line on some SRS TL's down in Naples, Fl.

Would be willing to help facilitate any club Polk members in purchasing - I don't have audiophile ears, but I could verify expected function. I could also pick up and store if you have to schedule to come get them (if the seller needs to get them out).
I just picked up a pair of original SRS, or I would be all over this.
I'm still a newbie, but if you are interested in my assistance, I can validate my identity fairly easily (not in the public forum, via pm - identity theft problem in the past). Hey, if you are local, I could even help transport these things (conversion van).
I don't have the knowledge to give much input here (I've been an information leach), so this is my way of offering to give back.

These are SWEET....but still no bids ?
The 2.3's I just got have the bass braces as well....I was wondering what that metal knob at the top back of the cabinets was...it was covering an embedded t-nut.....the rest of the hardware was in the box...along with an extra non-common ground IC ( Isolation transformer box was original Polk...not a homemade job )

I just sent a question to the seller about the Bass Braces.
Gary Batson
10-22-2007, 11:35 PM
Sellers are looking for the bass braces but don't know what they're looking for. I told them they were steel. That's all I know. What do they look like???

10-23-2007, 12:32 AM
They are allthread with a wall mount. Those really look nice and the guy has the original boxes. $1600 is a steal man! I didn't notice does it come with the AI-1 cable or the straight SDA wire?
Gary Batson
10-23-2007, 02:10 AM
The seller just said they come with the interconnect cable?.. What's the difference???... They'll go for a lot more than $1600. I'm praying they don't go too high.

The difference is that the AI-1 has a transformer in-line. With the straight interconnect if you amps (mono blocks or stereo amps) that are not common ground you have to strap the amps together. Not all amps can be strapped. In this case you would use the AI -1 which allows you to use two non-common ground amplifiers to drive the 1.2 TLs.

Snow, thanks a lot. I was pretty impressed with the boxes also. Sometimes pictures can hide blemishes and dings, but the boxes looked so clean (after 17 years) that I figured the guy must take super good care of them, that's really what sold me. And I'm dying to hook my Parasound HALOs up to them, and exercise their lungs. Any advice on placement or positioning?

Hearingimpaired, I was really impressed with your 2-channel setup (an SME Series V Tonearm??!! -- niiice). I'd like to get your thoughts on an upgrade to the 1.2TL crossover -- did you rebuild your own, or did you have someone do it? If so, what difference did you hear, and how much did you pay? I hear that an upgraded crossover makes a world of difference -- Darque Knight did a short expose on that topic here. What do you think?

I did the crossover upgrade with assistance from another member but I assure you that it really isn't difficult. The big differences I've found was a more accurate tone, the bass definition and presence are leaps and bounds better, the imaging and details are more holographic.
Don't leave home without them!!! The RD0198s & crossover upgrades.

Lasareath, I did see your web albumn (even before I bought the 1.2s), and I was totally impressed. I don't have any "body" work on the speakers, they are in perfect condition all around, but I hear I can get better imaging and overall better sound by upgrading the crossover. I'm curious as to how high-quality components I can go, and if someone could help me.

Casualinfoguy, The Caps & Resistors we chose have both very good sonic properties and were not too expensive. For both crossovers I spent around $360. Plus around $44 for 1LB of Cardas Silver solder (which will last forever)
There are much more expensive Caps & Resistors out there and there are people who rave about them. But it will cost considerably much more money, If you want to go with Mundorf Caps then you will be spending around $1200. There some that cost even more than that. Somebody on here calculated it once and they came up with $3000 crossovers.
Hey, if you have the funds to throw away then go ahead, but the $400 upgrade worked perfectly for me.
I would suggest that you get them home, listen to 100 hours the way they are now. Then upgrade the tweeters to RD0198-1's and listen again for 100 hours. And then after you have really Heard them and know them then upgrade the crossovers.
This way then you will know where you were at with the original parts and what the upgrades did for you.

SalGreat advice Sal. Also if you can get your mitts on a SDA compendium it would be a good idea to do so. I think it is sold out for now at least. But you may be able to get Joe or sal to loan you theres so you can make a laser printed copy of what info you need because they are in your area. And George is right on with the inital placement of your speakers.

I'm in, I love doing this stuff.
One comment on Sal's advice, when you replace the 8 tweeters, let them break in 100 hours then do some serious listening for a week. You can't go wrong with Sonic Caps and Mills resistors anything more than that and you risk some pretty high diminishing returns. Again I'm in, PM me where you live.
