i got a HD-DVD of Transformer special edition for a friend to play on his new Toshiba laptop computer and it won't play. neither will the second disc with the extras on it.
it's possible the disc is bad, but you wouldn't think the extra's disc would be bad too.
has anyone read or heard of a Toshiba notebook computer having problems playing certain HD-DVD's? he as a few other HD-DVD's and they all play fine.

Send it over here Al, I'll look into it. ;)
He probably needs an update. I had to update my hd-dvd player in order for "Transformer" to play correctly.

They're selling laptops with HD-DVD drives now? Neat.

I have had to update my players to get them to play newer discs as well.
Make sure the firmware is updated, if that's something you can do with the laptop drive.

Transformers tries to autoupdate for the web-enabled features. I bet that is the culprit. I would say to make sure the laptop is online, or try to find out if there is a way to bypass the update. He also might not be waiting long enough. The 360 add-ons are taking around 5 minutes for playback the first time through, but after that it's just a few seconds.

ps, DON'T interrupt the 360 add-on while it updates itself. wait the 1-6 minutes!

I had the same problem. I was suprised at how long that update took to complete.
