I've got some Belkin speaker cable that I want to make a couple cables out of. I've never self-terminated speaker cables, but have always just used the bare wire ends on the binding posts.

Where would I get some good bannana plugs and how are they terminated? (ie. soldered, crimpped, set screw, etc.?)

I use these bannana plugs. They are locking and the wire is held in place by two set screws.

You get the bananna plugs to terminate anyway you want. I use the nanners with 2 set screws, rather than crimp or the PITA solder type.

I'll get you an ebay link to a guy in Canada that sells a very beefy 2 screw type for $2.50 a piece and he only charged $4 shipping to the US. Lots of 12.

These are exactly the same nanners someone (janmike, I think) karma'd to me and they are really nice, solid, good looking pieces. I'm going to order another set for a 2nd pair of cables I'm making.

These are better and cheaper than Monster and they are much nicer than the BFA Audioquest you see everywhere.

I use the ones that Blue Jeans Cables sells. They tighten down on the bare wire. I have them on all the Belden 12g gray cable I use in my HT.

Aaron, I may have some extras laying around. I've got some of the blue Jeans and some from Monoprice. I'll check but let me know if interested.

That's the same wire I'm talking about. I said the wrong brand earlier.

I use the GLS nanners on my speaker cable and like them alot. I really wish I would have purchased locking (mine are not) but the quality is good and they look very nice. I think the ones I have would hold up to about 8-9ga wire. (they hold the 10ga. I have in there quite nicely)

Dave, Let me know what you've got. I will probably order a few if you don't have any. I need to order a little cable anyway.

Cardas nanners are grade AA ass pain man, believe me. I made one set of cables with them, and swore never again. It takes f'in forever to heat them up, and they are just not solder friendly in my book...The Eichmann Bayonets are a little expensive, but by far the best solder nanners I have ever used....

Two sets of nanners and two sets of spades from BJC and as many of the Monos as you'd care to mess with

They are the $3.50/set variety. A ton nicer than the monos. Man, the price of wire went up. I just bought a 110 feet a few weeks ago at $.38 now I think it was $.61.

I understand your frustration Bill, but it's not about the tech that puts it together. [try a hotter gun w/ clamps and research on the coating] It's about the end result. Sound.

Even though cables don't make a difference.

The eichmanns sound better at the end of the day anyway, at least to me.....Believe me, after the first cable I spent a whole lot of time trying to find a way to make it easier....The copper Bayonets sound killer, I think I am going to try a set of the Silver ones next time I get the itch to actually make myself another set of cables.....
