So how do you like to listen to your music?
1. Where would you rather sit at an indoor concert -- front row center, fifth row, 10th row, or closer to the back?
2. Would you rather listen to your favorite music live in a large venue or small one?
3. Do you enjoy getting punched in the chest with pounding bass or do you prefer clean, subdued bass?
4. Do you prefer near-field or far-field listening?

1. 10th row as long as there aren't a bunch of tall people sitting in front of me!
2. Small one
3. Kind of a mix of both but it depends on the music in question
4. Well, when I am listening to my SRS II's, I am about 8 feet back so I'm forced to "near field"...until I redo my living room. Typically, most of mine has been need field unless it some bog "horny" speakers and then you HAVE to sit farther back.

Favorite music....large venue..with all my friends....
Punched in chest with clean bass.
In my house, the sweet spot is between 10-13', I dont know wether to say NF or FF

Nobody in the house except for me and sitting back listening to my system. Family of 5 here so I value relaxing with tunes over live music.

Won't the bucket affect the sound? Maybe it's just me, but that doesn't sound like it would be good.

2. Small by all means.
3. Clean bass that make my pubic hair vibrate
4. Both.

1. Closer to the back so when the pyrotechnics go wrong I only have to run over a couple people.
2. Small venue and preferably with half naked pictures of Liz Phair scrolling in the background.(930 Club, DC, 19??)
The best small venue show I've attended was Maceo Parker in Northampton, MA. Head bobbing, beer spilling, lyric shouting good time. It was topped off by hooking up with a large chested local who, upon pre-coitus bliss, had a mental breakdown. I ended up listening to this chatterbox most of the night and NOT getting laid.(Pearl Steet Night Club, MA, 1995)
3. Either but the best example of skills for me was Soul Coughing w/ Yuval Gabay(Drums) and Sebastian Steinberg(Upright Bass). That combination is still the benchmark for me and they are amazing musicians. I allegedly gave prime examples of rare canibus to the band when they came out to sign CD's and stuff. They were very happy that I was so kind.(930 Club, DC, 19??)
4. It doesn't matter but probably far-field. I don't like a bunch of sweaty losers touching me and getting into conversations I can't even understand or care about. Plus I like to watch people and rub my crotch alot.

10' from the front of my rig in my recliner with a beverage in one hand and the remote in the other. I had my fill of crowded concert venues long ago...everything from Bloodrock to Buffett. Been there...done that...got lots of T-shirts.

1. Where the mixing board is. Either in front or behind.
2. Depends on whether I'm listening to a soloist/single guitarist or a multi-membered group/orchestra.
3. Accurate. Depends on the type of music as to what is reproduced and my expectations.
4. Again, depends.
So how do you like to listen to your music?

I'll admit, that's a venue I've yet to experience. Darla, I'm sure you look wonderful but I hope none of my neighbors try it. I don't think there are any of them I'd care to see wearing only an iPod. :(

LOL. I am sure my neighbors would not appreciate me doing it either. Even with a strategically placed iPod ...or two.;)

10th row - this can vary by size of the venue though
small - Then again I've had a blast at a show with 100,000 people
no punching necessary
just right field listening - I'd like to be a bit further than the 9-10' at home though

Naked in my driveway with my ipod.A very dorokusai-ish post...
1. Where would you rather sit at an indoor concert -- front row center, fifth row, 10th row, or closer to the back?
Center of Balcony... It was perfect in Cleveland's Music Hall for Bowie and Boz Scaggs/ Steve Miller. Also preferable for symphony...
2. Would you rather listen to your favorite music live in a large venue or small one?
Depends...
Some of my favorite groups are/were too big for a small venue, e.g., Santana, Chicago. Some too small for a big venue, e.g., Leon Russell (and the Shelter People) in Cleveland Municipal Stadium (the old, "mistake-on-the-lake").
Sometimes a big crowd adds to the event, e.g., Yes in the Akron Rubber Bowl ... sometimes it detracts, e.g., Eagles (opening for Yes) in the Akron Rubber Bowl.
3. Do you enjoy getting punched in the chest with pounding bass or do you prefer clean, subdued bass?
Can I choose clean, near-pounding bass with a hefty dose of "tight"? I don't need to feel the bass in 2-ch music... save that for the HT movie nights...
4. Do you prefer near-field or far-field listening?
Far

After Darla's post.....
I would rather listen to my music in her driveway !;)
Honestly :
1 : indoor, it depends on who the artist is.
2 : a medium size venue
3 : clean bass, I hate the sound of bloated bass, just makes me want to to feed some audio bean-no to them.
