Just got back from dropping off Jasons (jflail2) kharma. Sat and talked about the madness we suffer from. Swapped lies and BS. Just by looking around, we've noticed quite a few Polkers in the area. Got to thinking about a local session for one and all to come by and see who has it the worst. My house is small but it has indoor plumbing! Let me know what you think.
Jasons a stand up guy and eager to learn as well am I. And he has KILLER cigars!

IN...

(pending wife approval for the scheduled timeframe)

Realistically, I can't join in until after New Year's. If it's down near Charlotte, I can schedule a trip to visit our businesses down there on a Fri or Mon to kill two birds with one stone.

Only 150 or so miles away according to mapquest, so depending on date should be a go for me and the mrs. Also need to figure out if we wanna do it over a weekend's time or just a day.

Ah before i forget, any of you guys in the area have a grill?
Good music, good food and good people. Not much more to ask for.

First of the year is what I'm thinking. Winter is a rough time of year schedule wise. Snow and ice storms keep us busy. I need to finish a few projects around the shack as well. PM me if you need my phone # or Joe (hearingimpaired) and Jason (jflail2) have it. I'll start a sticky if that works for every one.

Excellent idea, and it was great to meet you Russ!!! Good beers, good conversation, and free speakers; I can't say I've had a better Saturday in a while.

Might be a good idea to let everyone take care of holiday business anyway, but I am most definitely in for anything in western NC. Just keep me posted and I'll bring plenty of stogies and a little bit of grandpa's elixir as well...

For those that may be coming down from Jersey, I have a room you can crash in with a futon and we also have an inflatable queen size mattress. Just LMK if you are interested.

Any preferences Fireman? I'm usually a padron smoker (best bang for the buck imho) but took Russ an Opus X down since he was doing me a huge favor meeting me 1/2 way.

I'm going to start restocking the humidor now, so I'll grab a few extra according to what everyone likes...

I had to quit cigars because of some health problems years ago and let my humidor go without service, I lost Trinidads, Cohibas, Romeo Churchills, Fuentes Grand Reservas and a few pre Castros that a friend at JR Tobacco gave me after Mr. Rothman purchased an old store in DC.
At the time I was concerned more about me staying alive than my cigars so it doesn't hurt so bad that they were the losers.

I'm pretty far away from Charlotte (~2hrs) or I'd offer some bunks at my place. If anyone is closer to Asheville than Charlotte, you'd be more than welcome to crash at my place and ride down with me.

It would be great to meet you in person Ben; hope you can make it!

lightman1
11-19-2007, 08:55 PM
treitz, I can work with that plan. Do a double on a Saturday, if some folks want to hit both places is cool cause I my self would like to hear your rig. Trey is about 15 miles from me so he could bring some toys here, mind y'all my house is olny about 1000 sqft. So I'm sure there's gonna be some pluggin and un-pluggin goodies, "Does this sound better with that or this...." you know how we get!
Plenty of hotels in town or pass out on the floor, couch, dresser... etc. I've got my ht in the living room and 2ch in the bed room. Hardwood floors with area rugs so expect some reflections you folks with carpet may not be used to. Just look at as a different way to hear your equipment.
We could be roving band of audio-goobs, meet new friends, hear some great gear and, hell I'll make a tub of chili.
Ben, you get your ass up here or else..... and bring some of your world famous IC's.
Any and all ideas are appreciated and if any of y'all know how to make this thing a sticky, please let me know.

Well now that we know how to find you and we are not flying all over the clubhouse we can get down to business. Might I suggest that the three or four closest locals get together at someone's pad [or elsewhere] and figure out the best plan of action. It looks as if none of us have ideal places for a big event, but 3 of us are within an hour of each other and central to Charlotte.

The Gentleman's Club would be perfect  Nevermind, we wouldn't talk about anything and Trey can't even get in :p. Maybe meet at a local joint to where we could meet and discuss?

My listening room should be done by then. We have been busy relocating wires and outlets to clean up the look. Threw on a fresh coat of paint, packed up all the pic's on the wall to make room for new ones, got a new CD rack to store CD's/DVD's and put the Nitty Gritty and Shark at waist level, albums are up and in the curio cabinet, portable DVD for the on-screen menu of the SMS-1, new speaker cables, speakers and amps put into place. Things are coming along quite fine and I'm working on the final tweaks as we speak.

The only thing I would like to get done is to install a dedicated 20 amp line, which is harder than you think with the HOA breathing down my ass with every breath I take, but I've got some things in the works and in theory it will be installed by then [without seeing any wires].

We will also have another rig downstairs. Not like Sparky, but another rig none the less.

I was talking to my sister today about a walk-a-thon we do every year for ALS research. Our Mom passed away in 2001 from it. A thought came to me! (it happens sometimes;)). I will raffle off one of my Carver M-200t power amps for a small entry fee. ALL proceeds will then be donated to the local ALS chapter in the name of Club Polk Members.
If y'all are cool with this and there are no conflict issues with Polk Inc, chime in. There is no cure because they still don't know what causes it.
More info can be found at ALSA.org.

I was just talking to Joe about doing a cable raffle yesterday, and the proceeds be given to George. He could give the funds to a cause of his choice. Its not my place to put out why he gives where he gives, but I think it is a great idea. I think your idea is a great idea. Good on you! I don't know if me doing a raffle too would be counter productive. We could even combine the funds to be donated to your ALS chapter. BTW can we roast a pig there:D

Who could pass on the chance to wreak havoc on the local utilities while trying to rid Tom's house of the ugly dirty power noise ooooozing from his speakers. I suggest everyone attending bring as many HEAVY duty extension cords they can muster. 0-4 gauge moves to the front of the line as well as anyone bringing welder's cables. These will come in handy as we move from neighbor to neighbor "borrowing" an empty breaker slot to try and find Tom some clean power. Russ your bucket truck from work could come in handy during this venture. I'll pitch in on the lawn chairs and beers as we all gather to watch the beautiful sparks and arcs. The trial run on Monday night went pretty smooth with the exception of NOT finding the exact cause of the noise coming from the speakers. I'm hoping for a much more "eventful" showing as we all gather to exchange beers, ideas and dares.

PS Tom....I'm only trying to help.

Hey, I was wondering where you disappeared to. I have actually created a thread about the noise in the 2-channel audio forum. On hold with the power company as I type. BTW, thanks for coming down. You and Russ. It was fun!

Any cigar smokers in the house? I know Lightman Russ is down for a couple, but I'm trying to gauge if I need to bring a full box of pretty good smokes, or just 10-12 dandies.

If you like a particular brand, sound off so I can get an idea of where everyones' tastes are at.

And sorry Russ, but there's no Opus x to be had this time (hope you enjoyed the last one!)

Ok, the time is drawing near. Russ [Lightman1] would like to have everyone who is interested in attending this event to PM him ASAP to let him know if you are coming, whether or not you need hotel accommodations or additional travel information.

He normally would be posting this, but his rinky-dink, slack-ass internet service provider is having "issues" providing him with services but he has access @ his sister's house close by.

Joe and the hooligans from up north, I still offer my pad for housing. PM me for further details. We spoke today and we need a head count to find out how many bodies we need to bury......er.....uh.....I mean we need a head count as to how many people are coming so we can plan accordingly.

So, who is planning on attending March 14th - 17th or any day in between? Let him know.

Ben, you still gonna make it?

Russ:

I'll probably just ride down for the day on March 15th. I have to go back up to Charlottesville on the 16th, so I'll need to be ready to roll that morning.

I'd love to see your rig if time allows. Might help me decide my next step "up" :)

I'll probably be heading down Saturday around 10 AM (if all goes well) so I expect to be there around noon. Hopefully we can get up either before or after the festivities begin?

Everybody who came yesterday and had to leave.....did y'all make it home safe?

So far it's been a blast. Joe, Sal....you should've made it!. The last setup at Russ' house was an example of absolute perfect synergy. Best damn SDA sounds I've heard in a rig to date.

Russ passed out early from the good sounds [I don't think it was the beer ] and missed the VMPS sub when we had it hooked up. We actually broke out a RTR during the evening .

Good BBQ, good times, good friends...gotta love these mini-fests! Today we are over at my pad for some more audio abuse. Chi. Chi-ka-chi Ka. du du BOW BOW.

Well, there was a body in the pathway to the bathroom. (pics to follow)

Sorry I couldn't make it back down to Tom's for the Sunday jam. Headed south on I-77 I got a distress call from one of our superintrendents in Greensboro, NC. and had to drive up there to grab his trailer and deliver it to Winston-Salem, NC. But....I'll be back to hear the sub.

Chuck, thanks for bringing all that stuff out ... you hauled it a little ways to get out there.
Enjoyed hearing the Jolida and then comparing it to how the Parasound sounded. Not to mention all the many other miscellaneous pieces.
